Some critics are inclined to attribute the works of Oleg Markeev to the genres of science fiction or fantasy. Judging by outward signs, everything seems to be so. However, the author himself positioned his books as political novels.
Starting conditions
In his speeches and discussions, Oleg Georgievich Markeev has repeatedly argued that the reader seeks to find in books not only pleasant entertainment, but also new knowledge. If we reject isoteric knowledge and the presence of a "subtle world", the activities of secret orders, the existence of state secrets and special services, then the picture recreated on the pages of the book will be inadequate. Accordingly, the analysis performed will not be complete. The author, in modern conditions, needs to find the optimal ratio of useful content and entertaining text.
The future writer was born on March 19, 1963 in a military family. Parents at that time lived in Moscow. My father was in charge of a department at the Academy of Armored Forces. Mother taught foreign languages at one of the civilian universities. Oleg grew up as a calm and observant boy. With a good memory, he learned to read early and demonstrated aptitude for foreign languages. Markeev studied well at school. He was actively involved in sports. By the graduation class, he fulfilled the standards of the first category in swimming and athletics.
The road to creativity
After graduating from school, Markeev decided to get a specialized education at the Higher School of Border Troops at the department of military translators. Having received the diploma of a military assistant-translator, Lieutenant Markeev was assigned for further service in the Far Eastern Border District. In 1989 he was transferred to the southern borders of the USSR in Tajikistan. Here perestroika found the officer. After much hesitation and doubt, Oleg decided to resign from the army. By that time, regular officers were being written off in retirement, as they say, in batches.
In civilian life, no one was particularly expecting a thirty-year-old man without a suitable specialty. Rescued a skill acquired in the service. Oleg began translating esoteric articles from Chinese, and detectives and mystical novels from English. After a short time, Markeev showed himself as an author. In 1996, the novel "A Special Period" was published, which became the first in the "Wanderer" cycle. A further turn of events showed that the works of a military translator are distinguished by a harmonious synthesis of an action-packed thriller, a political detective and a mystical thriller.
Professional activity and death
To this day, critics talk about what genre to include Markeev's works. In fact, in all his books, the author, to a greater or lesser extent, leads a story about the activities of a secret society, which is called the Order of the Polar Eagle.
There is no reliable data left about the writer's personal life. Oleg Markeev died in June 2009. The next novel "The Daughter of Babylon" remained unfinished. The circumstances of the death have not yet been clarified. Only one thing is known for sure - the writer's laptop disappeared from the apartment.
