Eric Olsen: biography
Eric Christian Olsen was born on May 31, 1977 in Eugene, Oregon. His father taught English at Augustine College in Rock Island, Illinois, although Eric grew up in Iowa, in the city of Bettendorf. Here he went to school and discovered the talent of a hockey player, playing in the local team. Eric also studied Japanese and wrote to the local newspaper. And most importantly, at school, he played the lead role in almost every school play.
Eric did not immediately become interested in acting - being from a sports family, he played a lot in sports since childhood, in particular, played hockey. In addition, he studied Japanese and Chinese languages, wrote articles for a local newspaper.
Eric's older brother, former Navy SEAL David Paul Olsen, occasionally plays his stunt double on the set of NCIS: Los Angeles. There he met his wife, Eric's partner on the series, Daniela Roy.
Career
In the late nineties, Eric was forced to move to Malibu, as he received a scholarship from Pepperdine University in California. His major discipline was art, with an emphasis on biology and a double emphasis on English. Olsen studied child psychology and was about to connect his life with medicine, before he became seriously interested in acting.
Since Eric could not afford room and board in Malibu, he started gambling to make money. First there were commercials, then guest roles on TV shows such as Ambulance, where he played Travis Mitchell, a patient dying of burns. In the same year, the film "The Adventures of King Arthur" was released, in which Eric played his first major role - King Arthur. After that, the aspiring actor was offered the lead role of Cameron Green in the Fox TV series "Be Yourself", where he played in tandem with Anne Hathaway. For this role in 2000, Olsen and his co-stars Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and Kyle Brand Gibson were nominated for the prestigious Young Actor Award.
In the same 1999, two more series were released with Olsen's participation - he played in an episode of the series Turks and the role of Travis Mitchell in an episode of the series ER. But the most important was his constant participation in the TV series "Get Real", in which he played 17 episodes. Olsen was awarded the Young Artist Award in 2000 for Best Performance in this Series.
He made his big screen debut in 2000 with the release of the film Mean People Suck.
It was a low-budget youth comedy, which, however, was successful with viewers, and its director received the award for best student film. Olsen played one of the teenagers - Nick.
In 2001, the stellar Pearl Harbor was released, in which Olsen played a small role as a gunner. Immediately after him in 2002 the comedy "Hot Chicks" was released and here Eric is already playing in the foreground. The film turned out to be quite grossing.
In 2003, the disastrous film Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd was released. For this film, Olsen was awarded the Teen Choice Award for Worst Actor alongside his partner Derek Richardson. But that didn't bother Eric. He continued to work and soon he played a cameo role in the TV series "24" and a small role in the action-packed thriller "Cell".
Eric works and films a lot. Over the past five years, several films and TV series have been released with his participation. One of his most recent works was the recently released comedy Fired, in which he played one of the main roles. Also in 2009 there will be a film with his participation "The Reserve Plan" with Jennifer Lopez in the title role.
Also in 2011, he starred in the sci-fi horror film The Thing.
Since 2010, Eric has played detective Marty Dix in the NCIS series Los Angeles. His character appeared in two episodes of the first season. In the second season, Eric Olsen got into the main cast of the series and shares the set with Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.
