Biography: childhood and early career

The full name of the actor - David Jude Hayworth Lowe - is much more sonorous than the abbreviated version. In the press, you can find different versions of why it was called that. Most often, the famous Beatles song "Hey Jude" is mentioned. He was born in London at the end of 1972, or rather, on December 29. Jude became the second child of Maggie and Peter Lowe, their daughter Natasha was already growing up. The actor's sister linked her life with photography.

Jude's parents were engaged in teaching activities. Mom taught the children English, and the father taught lessons in the lower grades. But most importantly, they both adored the theater, so they did not mind at all to see their son on stage. At the age of six, Lowe played his first role in a children's play. At the age of 12 he was accepted into the troupe of the National Musical Youth Theater.

At school, the boy was mocked because of his too cute appearance, so at the age of 14 his parents transferred him to a private educational institution. But even here Jude found no friends or support. The children of wealthy parents did not like the fact that he came from a simple family with an average income. Therefore, at the age of 17, with the approval of his parents, the aspiring actor dropped out of school.

He appeared on the London stage in the productions of "The Abandoned Child", "Joseph and His Amazing, Multicolored Dreamcoat", "Pygmalion", "The Fastest Clock in the Universe." In parallel, Jude began a television career: he played small roles in films and TV shows.

Creativity: the path to fame and success in Hollywood

In 1994, Jude starred for the first time in the title role in Shopping, which was also Paul Anderson's directorial debut. The film turned out to be a failure, and the actor again focused on the theater. One after another, he has several performances:

  • Snow Orchid (1993);
  • Live Like Pigs (1993);
  • Death of a Salesman (1993);
  • Terrible Parents (1994);
  • Immodesty (1995).

For his role in Horrible Parents, the actor received a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award. Following the director's intention, in the second act of the play he had to play completely naked. The production of "Immodesty" was presented to the public on Broadway; Hollywood star Kathleen Turner became Jude's partner overseas. According to rumors, it was her patronage and benevolence that helped the young actor get several roles, after which the actor's career progressed noticeably.

In 1996-1997, he actively starred in British cinema, with his participation in the films I Love You, I Don't Love You, Addiction, Wilde. Then Lowe began working in Hollywood, among his most famous works of that time - "Gattaca" with Uma Thurman and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" directed by Clint Eastwood.

Jude Law's finest hour was the role of charming millionaire Dickie Greenleaf in Anthony Minghella's 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley. He starred with young Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow. The film received five Oscar and Golden Globe nominations each. Jude Law was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but in the end, these prestigious awards did not go to him. But the actor was awarded the BAFTA British Film Academy.

Lowe's career was rapidly gaining momentum. He visits the UK less and less, the theater gradually fades into the background. In 2001, director Jean-Jacques Annaud invites Judah to play the role of sniper Vasily Zaitsev in the drama Enemy at the Gates, dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II. In Russia, the film was criticized for distorting historical facts.

Soon, the actor has a chance to work with the great director Steven Spielberg. He stars in his sci-fi film Artificial Intelligence (2001) as the robot Gigolo Joe.

In 2003, Lowe's second collaboration with director Anthony Minghella was released. In the drama Cold Mountain, the action takes place during the American Civil War, in the center of the plot is the story of two lovers, played by Nicole Kidman and Jude Law. Critics took the picture well, "Cold Mountain" got nominations for "Oscar" and "Golden Globe". Alas, the coveted statuettes again slipped from the hands of the actor. They met Minghella again in 2006 on the set of Invasion.

2004 became one of the most fruitful in Jude Law's career, six films with his participation were released. Among them - the comedy "Alfie", the drama "Intimacy", "Heavenly Captain and the World of the Future" in the genre of fantasy.

An extremely successful tandem was made by Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's adventure film Sherlock Holmes (2009). After the resounding success of the first part, the sequel "Sherlock Holmes: A Play of Shadows" was released in 2011. In 2012, the actor flashed in the English adaptation of the novel "Anna Karenina" in the role of Anna's husband.

Jude Law's work over the past five years:

  • The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014);
  • Black Sea (2014);
  • Spy (2015);

  • Young Dad (2016);
  • King Arthur's Sword (2017);

In 2019, it is planned to release 3-4 films with Lowe's participation, including the continuation of the series "Young Dad". This project tells the story of the life and reign of the fictional Pope. Undoubtedly, such a hero became an interesting acting experience for Jude Law. Indeed, most often he got the roles of handsome men, heroes-lovers with an indispensable romantic component in the plot.

Personal life

A fruitful career did not interfere with the actor's rich personal life. In 1997, he married actress Sadie Frost, his co-star in the movie Shopping. In this marriage, Lowe fathered sons Rafferty (1996), Rudy (2002) and daughter Iris (2000). In 2002, the couple broke up, as Jude focused on his career and spent very little time with his family. Plus, Sadie heard rumors of his flirting with Nicole Kidman on the set of Cold Mountain.

Very soon he had an affair with actress Sienna Miller. They met at one of the auditions. In 2006, the couple broke up, as Sienna accidentally found out about Jude's infidelity with the nanny of his children from his first marriage. Later, they made attempts to reunite, but in the end, each went his own way.

From two short-term novels, the actor has two more daughters: Sofia (2009) and Ada (2015). At the moment, Lowe is dating psychologist Philip Coan. They are often seen together on dates and on romantic trips. However, lovers are in no hurry to get married or have children, and do not go out together to official events. After all the mistakes he made, the actor carefully protects his private life and is glad that the woman he loves shares his views.
