From the biography of Gianni Morandi

The future famous Italian performer was born in the town of Mongidoro (Italy) on December 11, 1944. Gianni's father was a shoemaker, his mother was a housewife. As a child, Morandi learned what need is. There was not enough money to live on. After school, the boy went to work: he sold sweets and shined shoes. At the same time, he helped his father distribute newspapers and campaign materials: he was an adherent of communist views.

The boy's education was interrupted at the very initial stage. For further training, Gianni undertook his father. In the evenings, he read to his son the works of Marx, Chernyshevsky and Lenin. The father made efforts to hone his son's diction and native language. Errors and shortcomings were punishable by deprivation of walks.

Already in his youth, Morandi tried to sing. At first he performed at family holidays, then Gianni began to be invited to small concerts, where he sang for a fee. For the young man in the district, the fame of the songwriter soon gained.

Gianni Morandi: road to glory

Morandi's musical biography expanded in 1963. He began to participate in festivals, he was invited to television shows. Morandi released his own albums. Subsequently, Gianni tried himself as a film actor and even a film director. Musical compositions performed by the radiant Morandi conquered the audience and turned into real hits.

At the very peak of his popularity, Morandi disappeared from the stage and from the screens for some time: the time had come to pay back his homeland. For more than a year he did military service. Later, he said that in those days he was not allowed to leave, so that no one could accuse his superiors of patronizing the singer. After the end of the service, Morandi had to restore the lost interest of the public in his person. He succeeded: he twice won prestigious music competitions.

In 1970, Gianni was in the top ten performers at Eurovision. But the performance in San Remo was not the most successful. Personal problems were added to this failure: the artist's father died. Morandi also ended his relationship with his first wife. Inspiration faded.

Morandi tried to confront life's challenges. He began to master the double bass and even tried himself as a football player. Fortune turned to face the singer again. He has held leading positions in several festivals. The success cemented the main role in the popular motion picture.

Morandi developed especially warm relations with the USSR. In the Land of the Soviets, the work of the Italian was treated with love. The audience knew many of his songs by heart. In the 80s, Morandi managed to give concerts in several Soviet cities.

In the new millennium, Morandi continued his successful career as a performer. He is also known as a TV presenter. Morandi received flattering reviews for his work in the next season of the series "Pietro Island" (2018).
