Soon, Ekaterina moved to the Central Music School, where Vladimir Krainev became her teacher. In one of the interviews, the pianist noted that she had been lucky with mentors since childhood.

At the age of 12, Skanavi performed for the first time at the Moscow Conservatory, performing with the orchestra D. Kabalevsky's third piano concerto conducted by the author himself. Subsequently, Catherine began to study at the same conservatory.

After graduating from school, Skanavi studied at the Paris Conservatory. She soon moved to the States. Skanavi began living in Cleveland and studying at the local Institute of Music. In parallel, she took lessons from Sergei Babayan. He was her friend, but then very few people knew him as a virtuoso pianist.
