Vorobyovy Gory is one of the most famous parks in Moscow. Various events are often held here, for example, youth flash mobs, concerts and sports competitions, and almost everyone who comes to the city strives to get here.
Vorobyovy Gory is located on the so-called Teplostan Upland on the right bank of the Moskva River, in the southwestern part of the city. This area owes its name to the village of the same name, which was located here in the Middle Ages. According to historical data, the village was bought by Princess Sophia from a priest named Sparrow, turned into a beautiful estate, and then into a summer imperial residence. A little later, the Andreevsky Monastery was built on the northern slope of the mountains, which operated until the end of the 18th century. In Soviet times, Vorobyovy Gory was renamed Lenin Hills, and the buildings of the Moscow State University were built here.
The main attractions of the Sparrow Hills
The main attraction of Vorobyovy Gory is, of course, the observation deck. It was chosen by photographers, since here you can shoot the most beautiful panoramas of the city, newlyweds come here, take pictures for the memory of residents and guests of the city, excursions for tourist groups are held. Representatives of various youth subcultures like to arrange their meetings here, which turn into colorful dance performances.
One cannot fail to note the extraordinary beauty of the Vorobyovy Gory landscape - the green zone of broad-leaved trees, which stretches from north to south of this area, landslides on steep banks and groundwater exit points that form springs, three natural ponds. In the nature reserve with almost tame animals and birds, excursions are regularly held during which environmental problems are discussed.
It will be equally interesting to see the ski jump, built back in 1953 and still in operation, or the places where bicycle and motorcycle races are held. In addition, you can rent both bicycles and roller skates here. An unusually beautiful sight is the construction of the Luzhnetsky metro bridge, which connects Vorobyovy Gory and Luzhniki.
Andreevskaya embankment at the foot of the Sparrow Hills is reinforced with granite slabs, on which fishermen like to sit, and on the green lawns there are sunbathers. But swimming here is not recommended, although there are no strict prohibitions, which many people use.
