As part of the criminal case opened on the fact of the riots on Bolotnaya Square in Moscow on May 6, 2012, law enforcement agencies carried out a number of investigative actions against those who are considered involved in violations of the law. Searches of prominent opposition figures were carried out in June. Blogger Alexei Navalny and TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak were among those who did not escape this unpleasant procedure.
On June 11, 2012, operational-search measures within the framework of a criminal case on violations of order during the May "March of Millions" took place. A search was carried out in the apartments of TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak, who repeatedly took part in events held by opponents of the current government. It should be noted that Sobchak was not present at the May 6 rally.
A safe was found in the apartment occupied by Ksenia Sobchak, in which there was a fairly large amount of money. Dollars and euros for a total amount of about 1.5 million rubles. were laid out in more than a hundred envelopes. Law enforcement officials doubted that this amount was of "bank" origin. Some of the envelopes bear inscriptions, which the investigation has yet to decipher. Perhaps the funds found are related to the events held by the opposition in different cities of the country.
Ksenia Sobchak herself said that she did not understand why she had no right to keep at home the money that she had earned for several years and reflected in the tax return. Meanwhile, the tax inspectorate has begun a desk audit of Sobchak's income for 2011, said Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. During the investigation, it is also planned to check the activities of commercial firms registered to Ksenia Sobchak, as well as her bank accounts.
Similar searches were carried out on the same day in the apartment of the blogger and organizer of the Rospil project Alexei Navalny, as well as in his office. Employees of the Investigative Committee seized a significant amount of material evidence from Navalny, including office equipment, electronic media and a large amount of literature with anti-state slogans.
Lawyer Henry Reznik considers the searches of his client Ksenia Sobchak and other opposition leaders unreasonable and illegal, aimed at discrediting these persons in the eyes of the public. Alexei Navalny has already appealed against the decision of the judicial authorities, which issued a search warrant in his apartment.
