The future theater and film actor was born in Samara on June 24, 1914. Grigory came from a working class family that moved to Leningrad in 1929. Here Spiegel Sr. got a job as a foreman at a dyeing factory. After graduating from school, Grigory also went to work there.
In 1934, Grigory went to Moscow, where he entered the Central School of theatrical Amateur at the directing department. Two years later, the educational institution was reorganized. Spiegel transferred to the acting school that existed at Mosfilm, from which he graduated in 1940.
Career in theater
Having received his education, Spiegel began work in the Theater-Studio of the film actor. Collaboration with Gaidai brought Spiegel special fame: in the comedy The Diamond Arm, the actor played a smuggling pharmacist. This is one of Spiegel's most famous cinematic works.
Leonid Kanevsky, who got the role of the second smuggler, later recalled how the shooting took place. He called Spiegel a funny and ironic person, an amazing partner who responded instantly to improvisation. One of these joint improvisations was gibberish, which the actors spoke in the film.

In 1974, Spiegel became an Honored Artist of the RSFSR.
The talented actor was not married. He had no family and children, he lived alone. And he had few friends. Grigory Shpigel passed away in the capital of the USSR on April 28, 1981.
