The folklore ensemble from the village of Buranovo, Malopurginsky district of Udmurtia, has been performing on the stage for over 40 years, but at first it gained national and now worldwide fame not at all thanks to the performance of folk songs. In May, the country followed with passion, emotion and surprise the steep rise of "Buranovskiye Babushki" with the incendiary hit Party for Everybody to the second line of the Eurovision Song Contest.

This take-off began four years ago, when the grandmothers replenished the repertoire with songs by Viktor Tsoi and Boris Grebenshchikov, translated into the Udmurt language. After performing at the Udmurt Philharmonic Society at the Day of the Mother Language, they got into the zone of increased attention of the press, which attracted the appearance of a professional producer - director of the House of Lyudmila Zykina, Ksenia Rubtsova.

Two years later, "Buranovskie Babushki" knocked on the Eurovision door for the first time - in the 2010 national qualifying round they took third place. And this year, according to the results of the audience voting and by the decision of the professional jury, the Udmurt grandmothers became the first in a similar competition, ahead of domestic pop stars Dima Bilan and Timati.

The correctness of the choice became obvious even in the semifinal round of the Eurovision Song Contest - the performance of six elderly ladies from Buranov evoked positive emotions not only among the audience, but also among direct competitors. The Russians scored the most points - 152 - in their semi-finals. And the night from 26 to 27 May became the apogee of the four-year trajectory of the takeoff of the folklore ensemble - the mark was fixed at an altitude of 259 points, this is the second line of the final table of results of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. The fiery rhythm of the composition Party for Everybody performed by the contestants, four of whom have already exceeded 70, left few people indifferent. Now, perhaps, the Russian word "grandmother" in certain circles can become no less famous label in Russia than the word "sputnik".

Of course, after the end of the competition, the Udmurt ensemble will not stop performing. On June 12, they are expected to appear on Red Square during the celebration of the Day of Russia, on the 16th - at the festival in Jurmala, on July 12 - at the "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk, in August - at the Kuban Cossack festival in Taman. In addition to all this, the recording of a new album "Buranovskiye Babushki" is being prepared and invitations to touring Germany, France and England are being discussed. The Eurocelebrities themselves say that they will not go anywhere from Buranovo until they dig up the potatoes.
