Roxana Rubenovna Babayan is a popular singer, soloist of VIA "Blue Guitars", TV presenter, actress. Since the 70s, she has been participating in numerous song competitions, popular television music programs, acting in films, performing on the radio and conducting active social activities.
Roxana Babayan was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation. Roxana Rubenovna is an active defender of homeless animals and heads the Russian League for the Protection of Animals.
Childhood and youth of the singer
The girl was born in Uzbekistan, in the city of Tashkent, in 1946, on May 30. Her father is a civil engineer, and her mother is a famous pianist and composer. It was thanks to the musical upbringing, which Roxana's mother was engaged in, that the girl fell in love with music from an early age and, even before school, learned to sing and play the piano.
Roxana dreamed of a singing career, but her father did not support her passion for music and was against her daughter becoming a professional musician and singer. That is why Roxana after school enters a technical university to get the profession of an engineer. But this did not prevent the girl from continuing to practice singing, and already in the first year of study at the institute, Roxana takes part in musical performances, competitions, concerts and festivals. At one of these musical events, the singer's voice conquered Konstantin Orbelian, who at that time was the head of the State Pop Orchestra in Armenia. He invites Babayan to become a soloist of his orchestra and come to Yerevan for this. Roxanne agrees, but does not give up studying at the institute. She manages to successfully combine music lessons, performing on stage and studying. As a result, she earned her degree in civil engineering in 1970.
It should be noted that in addition to the first higher education, Roxana Babayan has two more diplomas. She graduated from GITIS with a degree in manager and the Pedagogical University in Moscow with a degree in psychology. The girl has always been fond of studying human psychology. And her cousin was involved in obtaining a higher psychological education for Roxanne, who devoted himself to the profession of a psychologist, eventually receiving the title of professor in this field. It should be said that Babayan not only received her third higher education, but also defended her dissertation in psychology.
Music, songs, creativity, career
The singer's career began thanks to performances with K. Orbelian's orchestra, where she performed jazz compositions.
In 1973 Roxanne was invited to the "Blue Guitars" ensemble as a soloist of the group. There she successfully works under the guidance of musician Igor Granov, participating in the group's concerts and various song competitions. With one of the composer's songs, Babayan goes to the Schlager Festival in Dresden, where her voice was appreciated and awarded a well-deserved prize in 1976.
After success in the competition, the singer's solo career begins to develop rapidly. She leaves VIA "Blue Guitars" and decides to work independently. She is invited to participate in the annual song festival "Song of the Year", after which she becomes famous throughout the country and takes leading places in the rating of Soviet performers.
Babayan performs not only at home: she is invited to take part in a performer competition held in Bratislava, then she successfully performs at the Cuban festival of pop songs.
The beautiful, melodic voice of the singer, artistry and external data have been remembered by the audience for many years. The singer is invited to perform in many cities of the Soviet Union, where she is greeted by overcrowded halls and hundreds of fans. Her creative career and work are associated with the country's leading poets, musicians and composers: V. Matetsky, L. Voropaev, V. Dobrynin, G. Garanyan. All of them remember their meetings and joint work with great warmth.
In the early 80s, Babayan successfully collaborated with the Melodiya music company, which produces gramophone records. She records many solo albums with her songs and several full-length discs ("Roxana", "When you are with me", "Another woman"), and in 1987 she received the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR.
After a while, the first clips with the participation of the singer appeared on television: “Because of Love”, “Ocean of Glass Tears”, “The East is a delicate matter”. During this period, Roxana's touring activity ceases for some time, she is working to expand her repertoire. The result of her painstaking work was new hits, presented in the next annual musical program "Songs of the Year".
The next stage of the singer's career is collaboration with composer Vladimir Matetsky. His songs, performed by Roxanne, were included in her new album "Witchcraft".
After a long break in her solo career and touring activities, Roxana is recording a new composition together with Alexander Ivanov, the lead singer of the "NAIV" group. It happened in 2013 and, according to the performers themselves, they had been hatching the creative idea of an experimental duet for many years. Although the directions in music that the singers were engaged in are completely different, the duet turned out to be unexpected and successful.
Later, a clip was shot for the track "Heading for Oblivion", in which a freelance artist and a business woman became the protagonists. The plot of the video was based on the complex relationship between these characters and was well received by the audience. On the wave of new success, the singer releases two more new compositions: "Thunderclaps" and "Nothing Lasts Forever Under the Moon". The result of the joint project was the "Formula of Happiness" album.
For many years, Roxana Babayan has continued her creative activity, acting in television projects and popular television shows. She also speaks on the radio and is actively involved in community life.
The singer's film career
Roxanne is known to the audience not only as a pop singer, but also as an actress who starred in many comedy films. She was not going to completely immerse herself in cinematic activity, but was filmed more for the soul and her own entertainment.
The creator of most of the films was the director and close friend of Babayan - Anatoly Eyramidzhan. Roxana's partners in films were famous and popular actors: A. Shirvindt, L. Gurchenko, I. Muravyova, A. Pankratov-Cherny and many others.
Babayan starred in the films "My Sailor", "Womanizer", "Impotent", "The Groom from Miami", "The Third is Not Superfluous."

The personal life of the singer
Roxana's first husband is a musician who worked with her in the Orbelyan Orchestra. The couple broke up after her husband moved to Moscow, where he was offered a promising position. His wife refused to go with him, which led to the final divorce. They remained friends and maintained a very warm relationship.
The second husband is the famous actor Mikhail Derzhavin. They met on tour in 1980, and it was love at first sight. Derzhavin at that time was married for the second time, but divorced for the sake of his beloved woman. Roxanne and Mikhail got married the same year. Unfortunately, the couple never had children.
