The Bible is a collection of individual texts of a religious nature, written by different people at different times (it is assumed that over 1500 years). It is interesting that all the texts are sustained in a single narrative style that describes the story of life itself, like multi-colored beads pierced with a single thread, as a symbol of eternal Being - all-pervading, diverse and unchanging.

Instructions

Step 1

The first biblical texts were carved in stone (the famous Ten Commandments). Later they began to use copper plates and scrolls (from parchment and papyrus).

Step 2

It is believed that the first person who united all these disparate narratives was the scribe Ezra inspired by the Divine Power. Thus, in 450 BC, the Old Testament arose. This first part of the modern Bible was constantly updated with new narratives, up to 397 BC. Moreover, the first text is dated about 1521 BC, and the last one was completed in 397 BC. By that time, the Old Testament already numbered 39 chapters, not counting 14 legends (apocryphal additions). However, the latter were never included in the final canonized version of the Bible, since they were not mentioned in the surviving Hebrew version of the original source.

Step 3

By the end of the 70s of the II century, the first translation of the most complete version of the Old Testament from Hebrew into Ancient Greek, known as the Septuagint (the result of the work of 72 translators), was completed for the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. It is now part of the British Museum.

Step 4

Oral stories about Jesus began to be recorded by his disciples from about the 50s to the 90s CE. After the end of the earthly journey of the holy apostles, their followers began to piece together everything together bit by bit. Until the year 200, the four Gospels and the main scriptures were recognized by the Church and combined into the second book of the Bible - the New Testament, containing 27 chapters. Since that time, the scrolls have been replaced by the first stitched notebooks called the "codex".

Step 5

The monks diligently rewrote these papyrus books, rechecked them for the number of lines, letters and keywords. However, inaccuracies were inevitable, given the cold, poor lighting and fatigue. Sometimes the scribes added their own clarifications instead of the original text. You can imagine the percentage of distortion, even if everyone made one mistake.

Step 6

As the teachings of Christ spread, the Bible began to be translated into all possible languages of the world. By the early 19th century, there were over 70 translations. To translate the Bible into Old Slavic in 863, two Christian enlighteners, Cyril and Methodius, had to invent an alphabet - the prototype of the current Cyrillic alphabet. The Bible was translated into modern Russian in parts: in 1821 the New Testament was published, in 1875 - the Old Testament.
