Not so long ago, watches were considered a characteristic feature of a respectable citizen. But later there came a time when it was impossible to do without this attribute. In the modern world, everything is much simpler. A multitude of time indicators, ranging from advertising screens to mobile phones, are ubiquitous.
Mechanical watches
The most important part of a mechanical watch is a small spring that needs to be tightened periodically, thus activating the movement. Gradually unwinding, it pushes the built-in pendulum, which after equal time intervals drives the wheel clockwork. The adjusted work of all these components of the device moves the minute and second hands.
The disadvantages of mechanical watches are primarily in inaccuracy. In the use of mechanical watches, an error of +40 to -20 seconds per day is always allowed. That is, the mechanical clock runs forward half a minute in a day, or begins to lag behind by 10 seconds, this is considered the norm.
Mechanical watches can fail in high humidity and dusty environments.
Self-winding watches are the same first mechanical watches, but equipped with a special device. The mechanism is triggered by a simple hand movement or while walking, after which it twists the winding spring. Their main drawback results in a sedentary lifestyle of a person. If you spend the whole day sitting in the office or driving a car, the watch will still have to be wound manually.
Quartz watch
The mechanism of such a watch is powered by a small battery. The pendulum in the mechanism has been successfully replaced with a quartz crystal. A miniature electric generator sends uniform impulses to the pendulum, and these, in turn, start the mechanism. The hands of such a watch can be replaced with an electronic display. Quartz watches are more accurate than mechanical watches. Their error does not exceed 20 seconds per month. There is no need to start such a mechanism. They work until the power supply is completely discharged.
Features of a quartz watch
The old-fashioned square or round watch shape is a thing of the past. With the help of the finest quartz movement, you can create designer and stylish pieces of any shape - triangular, zigzag, curved.
Over time, the quartz crystal in the watch grows old and starts to rush. Also, from time to time, it is necessary to replace the battery.
The future must be digital
Modern digital or electronic watches work on the same principle as quartz watches. Only their mechanism does not require a quartz crystal. In addition, they are able to show not only the time, but also the temperature, atmospheric pressure, or a notebook or alarm clock can be built into them.
