Currently, various forms of medallions depicting the signs of the zodiac are becoming widespread. Some people use them as jewelry, others endow such items with a special mystical meaning. The Orthodox Church has its own point of view on such objects of worship.
For an Orthodox Christian who professes faith in Christ, it is compulsory to wear a crucifix on his chest. This is due to the believer's awareness of the fact that the Lord's cross is understood not as an instrument of the execution of God, but is an altar on which the Son of God endured suffering and death for the salvation of mankind.
Sometimes people are interested in whether it is possible to wear medallions with the signs of the zodiac along with a pectoral cross. The Orthodox Church, which has a negative attitude towards astrology, gives a clear answer - it is not proper for a Christian to use such pagan objects, even if only as decorations.
Symbols of the zodiacal constellations are depicted on such medallions, for example, Virgo, Sagittarius, Capricorn and others. According to astrology, the fate of a person and even his character depends on which zodiac constellation a person was born under. This position has nothing to do with the teaching of Christianity, according to which each person has the freedom of choice and it is thanks to this freedom that certain circumstances of life are possible.
An Orthodox person should be aware that medallions with the signs of the zodiac are the property of paganism and ancient occult practice. The Gospel clearly speaks of the impossibility of connecting light with darkness. A believing Christian who is unacceptable to astrology and the position of a fatal predetermination of his fate should treat such subjects with special understanding.
A Christian can wear medallions along with a pectoral cross. Currently, there are many products with images of icons of the Mother of God or saints. Therefore, if a person has an urgent need to wear a medallion, then he may well choose a product of the Orthodox type, which, among other things, can be consecrated by a priest of the Orthodox Church.
