Instructions

Step 1

The easiest way to analyze the topic of questions is to use an example. Let's take an affirmative sentence:

My husband plays the guitar every day for two hours in the living room of our house. - My husband plays the guitar every day for two hours in the living room of our house.

There is only one general question for this proposal:

Does your husband play the guitar every day for two hours in the living room? - Does your husband play guitar for two hours every day in the living room?

Step 2

The general question is asked to the entire sentence, as if you were questioning the whole statement. You can answer “yes” or “no” to such questions. The structure of the general question is as follows: the auxiliary verb corresponding to the temporal form of the sentence is put in first place, followed by the subject, the semantic verb of the predicate and all other members of the sentence.

Step 3

Special questions begin with interrogative words: who, what, when, where, where, why, and so on. Answers to specific questions reveal the details of the story. For our example, you can ask the following questions:

Who plays the guitar every day for two hours in the living room? plays guitar for two hours every day

When (how often) does your husband play the guitar? - When (how often) does your husband play the guitar?

How long does your husband play he guitar in the living room? How long has your husband been playing guitar in the living room?

Where does your husband play the guitar every day for two hours? - Where does your husband play the guitar for two hours every day?

Why does your husband play the guitar every day for two hours in the living room of our house? - Why does your husband play the guitar for two hours every day in the living room?

Step 4

A special question begins with an interrogative word, then an auxiliary verb, a subject, a semantic verb are put, followed by the other members of the sentence. The only exceptions are questions to the subject: who is followed by a semantic verb in the corresponding temporal form.
