George Carlin is a scandalous American actor, writer and comedian, one of the founders of the stand-up genre. His performances on stage were notable for cynicism and foul language, but at the same time he touched upon exclusively socially significant topics.
Biography
George Carlin was born in 1937 in New York. From childhood, he faced typical social problems: his father drank a lot, and scandals in the family led to the divorce of his parents. The mother had to work hard, and the son did not always receive the proper upbringing. He was never able to finish school and at the age of 17 he went to serve in the flight troops. Karlin's position was far from romantic: he was a mechanic at a radar station, but the acquired skills were useful in the future: the future comedian managed to find a part-time job at one of the local radio stations.
Karlin was always distinguished by his "sharp tongue", he loved to convey his thoughts to those around him. So in 1959 the idea came to write their own humorous dialogues and perform with them from the stages of clubs and restaurants. Success was not long in coming: George, as if, became a reflection of the essence of middle-class Americans, who gladly attended his speeches and told others about them. So the comedian began to be invited to various shows on television, and he became known almost throughout the country.
The comedian has always been distinguished by a persistent unwillingness to accept the prevailing foundations of society and tried to live by his own rules. In the 70s, he joined the hippie movement, began to follow their fashion and worldview. Many TV producers rushed to break contracts with the showman, but this did not upset him in the least. It was during this period that Karlin's performances became as "dirty" as possible. Despite the negative attitude of the American court to the lack of proper censorship on television, a cycle of 14 comedy performances by George was recorded, completely ridiculing the current situation in US society. In them, the comedian was not at all shy in words. Nowadays, it is these records that are considered classics of the world stand-up.
The artist managed to prove himself in the film industry. He appeared in the comedy Bill & Ted's The Bizarre Adventure and has starred in several other experimental projects. Carlin also published books such as the satirical books Brain Loss, Napalm and Children's Plasticine, Thrice Carlin: George's Orgy and others.
Personal life and death
The artist was married twice. The first wife was one of the fans of his work, Brenda Hosbrook, whom he married in 1961. The couple had a daughter, Kelly. In the mid-90s, Brenda was diagnosed with cancer and soon passed away. In 1998, Carlin remarried a woman named Sally Wade. This time, the marriage lasted until the death of the most popular comedian.
George Carlin was addicted to alcohol and drugs for a long time. In 2004, when his health condition deteriorated greatly, the artist decided to undergo a rehabilitation course, but the treatment was not very effective. Karlin began a series of heart attacks. After another, which happened in 2008, the comedian passed away. He was 71 years old.
