The bereginya doll was considered a talisman in all Slavic houses. Each mistress made such dolls for her husband, for children, or just in a secluded corner of her home. Pupae protected their owners from adversity and the evil eye. She helped the hostess to maintain the family hearth, protecting them from evil spirits, fires and theft.

Instructions
Step 1
We make the doll's head first. Cut out a small square of white fabric. We put a neatly formed cotton ball in the middle of it. We "hammer" the cotton wool inward, forming a ball. Remove bumps to make the head smooth. In the area of the "neck" we pull it with a white or colored thread.
Our head is ready. We can either cut off the lower fabric (so that later we can sew the head to the body), or leave it - for making a doll body.
Step 2
After we have made the head, we proceed to making the body of the doll. We sew rag flaps under the head. Better if there will be as many more of them and they will be colored. The brighter and more colorful the fabric is, the more beautiful our product will be.
We form handles from the side edges of the material. In the area of / u200b / u200bthe "shoulder" we pull with threads. Also drag in the wrist area.
We fill the middle of the "body" with cotton wool (just like we did with the head). We pull the thread at the bottom. So, we already have it: the head, arms and body of the doll.
Step 3
We can make the doll's breast. Having made two small balls also from cotton wool and shreds (sewing them next to each other). We can ignore the primary sexual characteristics and decorate the chest area with beads or scarf we have made.
Next, we are going to make the skirt. The skirt can consist of one layer. If you want to add "fluffiness", you can use three, four, five or more layers of your choice. We sew a square of material so that we get a skirt. Sew the top of the skirt to the doll's body. Bottom - can be trimmed with braid in one or several rows, beads or beads (it all depends on your imagination and inspiration.
Step 4
Our doll is almost ready. It remains to add details and a few accessories.
One of the main elements of the Slavic peoples was the apron. We make it separately. We decorate the white or colored flap with finished embroidery. You can embroider the fabric itself. It is also possible to decorate in the form of colored or white braid. When our apron is ready, we sew it to the skirt.
To hide the "ugly joint" between the apron with a skirt and the doll's body, we "close" this place with a belt. We tie it to the side, allowing the long edges to dangle.
If you see your doll in the form of a young girl, then you do not need to wear a hat on her. We just make hair from woolen threads. Weaving them into ready-made braids and gluing them to the head. At the ends of the braids, ribbons can be woven or simply pulled with red threads.
If you have a female doll, then cover her head with a scarf.
We put on beads around the neck.
We give in hand a broom, a basket of coins or a bag of grain.
