Most of all, they are not limited by any framework, but, on the contrary, their complete absence. People of creative professions understand this best of all: choosing a theme for a future work can be incredibly difficult, especially if a million ideas of a very different kind are hovering in your head at the same time.

Instructions

Step 1

Try starting with no topic at all. When you have inspiration, a desire to write and come up with something, do not waste this moment thinking about an idea - just sit down to pen. Do not stick to any framework (structural, logical or genre), but just write about what comes to your mind. It is quite possible that the resulting chapter will be the last in the future book, or just one of many. And if while working on it you do not have options for the development of events or interesting ideas, then no one bothers to simply put it on the shelf.

Step 2

Look for inspiration from other authors. The more you read, the more you will learn about the options for the development of the plot, stylistic techniques and ways of constructing a work. In particular, you may be interested in the problem described in the book (let it be adolescent psychology from "The Catcher in the Rye"), but there will be a desire to look at the issue from a different angle (for example, not from the perspective of a teenager, but from his parents).

Step 3

Take advantage of the popular setting. If you find it difficult to come up with your own fantasy world or want to write a story about existing characters, then there is nothing wrong with that. Dozens of books are created based on especially popular ideas (take S. T. A. L. K. E. R.), and some universes are becoming world classics (Warhammer 40'000 or Dungeons & Dragons).

Step 4

Don't try to write the Bible the first time. The mistake of many novice writers is that they try to put their whole soul into the first work at once. This can only happen if the soul is actually small (which is unlikely). Therefore, it is better to create consciously "local" works, with a clearly limited theme and idea. Only when you feel enough experience in yourself to realize something intimate do you take it.
