On September 1, a law on the protection of children from information that could harm their health and development came into force in Russia. This bill gave rise to many doubts and indignant statements among the adult population of the country.

According to the new law, children (and these are all persons under the age of eighteen) should not encounter works that depict scenes of pornography, violence, disrespect for elders, neglect of family values, the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Media workers are required to label their products according to the age they are intended for. Programs for adults will be aired after 11 pm, books on “adult” topics will be available in the library only after showing a passport.

The main concern expressed by the Russians is that practically any information that is in the public domain can be summed up under the vague wording of the law. This gives the state the opportunity to censor objectionable information, justifying its harm to the younger generation. However, the President of the Russian Federation has already stated that the law will not become a tool in the fight against Internet sites.

There were also "victims" of the new bill. The first sign was the film "Anatomy of Tatu" - the autobiography of the famous pop group. The Kultura TV channel refused to show it in the evening, deciding not to risk it by postponing the broadcast to the evening. True, the rights to show the film were immediately bought by MTV.

Some Soviet cartoons almost fell into disgrace - "Wait a minute", "Crocodile Gena and Cheburashka". The reason is simple - the main characters of these animated films appear in front of a young viewer with a pipe or cigarette in their teeth. The amendment by Roskomnadzor saved them. "Harmful" works of historical or cultural value are allowed to be viewed by minors.

Western cartoons are not so lucky. The Simpsons has been censored - the Itchy and Scratchy Show, which Lisa and Bart loved to watch, will be removed. The animated series "South Park", in which Kenny is regularly killed, had to be shifted for scenes of violence until late in the evening.
