There are interesting places in the Volgograd region. It takes a lot of time to see everything. Among them there are those who have managed to become famous, and there are still unknown ones.
Not far from the village of Golubinskaya, in the Kalachevsky district, there is the Witch's Fang Mountain. Up to the hill to the village no more than one and a half kilometers.
The mountain that cannot be seen
It is unlikely that the Witch's Fang will cause anyone to associate with Everest: the mountain is not high. Rather, it is a chalk, detached outlier. It remained after the destruction due to the influence of the natural factors of the massif. But still the place is called a mountain. It is likely that this is just an attempt to exalt a small hill, a red word, or maybe the peak seemed to someone to be an unattainable peak.
It is interesting that it is impossible to see the hill from the road. The mountain is invisible even when approaching the location indicated on the map. But the Don is perfectly visible in the distance, ravines, chalk cliffs. And to the Witch's Fang in a straight line from the river a little more than two kilometers.
To finally see the hidden mountain, you need to walk a little forward along the path. It is not magic that hides the hill, but the relief. The height of the hill is small, so it becomes invisible if you look in its direction from the lowlands.
How the outlier appeared
You can only get to a very interesting place on foot. In ancient times, the outlier was part of a ravine slope, but the wind and rain have done a lot of work. Thanks to them, the Witch's Fang stands alone. According to the results of scientists' research, the age of education is small, a century or a century and a half. However, according to local residents, everything is not so: grief is millions of years old.
This hypothesis is incorrect: the outlier was formed by soft Cretaceous rocks. For millions of years, not a trace of them would have remained, and the rains would have washed away the mountain. It is likely that even after a century there will be no hill, but only a modest mound.
But lovers of mysticism, no one forbids composing about the grief with a surprisingly vivid name of the legend. People come to her to perform rituals, ask higher powers for the fulfillment of desires. Even gifts are brought. However, even without mystical overtones, the area is very effective. There is silence, fresh air and beautiful landscapes here.
Mysticism and reality
It is interesting that despite the small height of the mountain, standing at its foot, people feel like tiny little people. There is practically no vegetation on the slopes.
If grass or shrubs can grow there, the hot sun quickly dries them out. They then remain bizarre mummies, whose withered roots cling to the chalky white edges.
Nobody managed to visit the summit. The climb is too steep. But to climb the ravine slope, the one in which the mountain "hides", is easy. And from there - the most magnificent views. The surroundings are incomprehensibly reminiscent of mountain valleys, and around - the sea of hawthorn.
Even if not for long, for half an hour, but the place is worth the time spent visiting. It is quiet, cozy and amazingly peaceful here.
