Alexander was born in Yekaterinburg on November 24, 1941. His father was a military pilot, his mother was a housewife.
After school, Alexander began to study at the capital institute in order to obtain an engineering degree. He finished his studies in 1966. For some time Maslyakov worked as an engineer, and then decided to become a journalist.

Svetlana Smirnova became Maslyakov's wife. She was an assistant director and took the job in 1966. They got married 5 years later. Svetlana continued to work as a TV show director.
Son Alexander was born in 1980. He studied at MGIMO, became the host of the "Premier League", he also hosts the programs "Out of the game", "Planet of KVN". Angelina Marmeladova, a journalist and writer, became his wife. In 2006, a daughter, Taisia, appeared in the family.
