Emmanuil Savelievich Khavkin is known to the audience under the pseudonym Geller. The artist was born on August 8, 1898 in the Ukrainian regional center of Dnepropetrovsk in an ordinary Jewish family. As a child, the boy was a very developed and agile child. He loved to participate in all school activities, attending various amateur circles. Having matured, the young man organized an improvised mini-theater in the local house of culture, where he showed his performances to everyone.
After serving in the army, Emmanuil Savelyevich enters the theater school in St. Petersburg. Having received his education, in 1925 he left for Moscow, where he began to work in several theater companies at once. Having settled in the theatrical field, the young actor recruits his own team, with which he toured throughout the country for two years.
Creation
Having received his first portion of fame, Khavkin decides to try his hand at domestic cinema. In 1927 he first enters the set. At first, he gets small and insignificant roles. But over time, the directors saw a huge creative potential in the young man. In 1932 he gets his first cameo role. In wartime, together with a group of artists, Emmanuel Geller was sent to Uzbekistan, where he simultaneously worked in the theater, showing his performances in front of Soviet soldiers and officers and starring in several films at once.
Throughout his acting career, Emmanuel Savelievich Geller never got the opportunity to play the main role. Despite this circumstance, he was the king of the episode. Having starred in more than 30 films and playing vivid memorable roles of comic characters, the actor won the well-deserved recognition and hearts of millions of fans. In 1964, at the age of 46, Emmanuil Savelyevich completed his film-acting career and devoted all his last years to numerous performances on theatrical stages of Moscow. Since 1974, Geller has been carrying the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Soviet Union.
Personal life
In his personal life, the actor was the complete opposite of his "windy" movie characters and always loved only one woman. An unremarkable, modest and quiet girl Olga Sokolova, who was 11 years younger than Emmanuil Savelyevich, became his devoted friend and faithful wife. Despite the absence of children, they lived a long and happy life together. The remarkable actor died on May 6, 1990 at the age of 92, and was buried in a large necropolis in the south-west of Moscow.
