Biography
Thomas Morello was born in 1964 in Harlem, New York. His mother, Mary Morello, of Italian-Irish descent, worked as an English teacher in Germany, Spain and Kenya. Father, of Kenyan origin, worked in a diplomatic mission. His paternal grandfather was the first president-elect in Kenyan history. The parents of the future musician met during a pro-democratic protest in Kenya. Upon learning of Tom's pregnancy, his parents returned to America.
When Tom was 16 months old, his father returned to Kenya and declared that he denied his paternity to the boy.
The boy's mother raised him alone, the family lived in the town of Libertyville, Illinois. Mary Morello worked as a history teacher at the school and also worked as a tutor.
Tom has been interested in art since childhood. During his studies, he sang in the school choir, participated in school performances. The second passion of the teenager was politics, his worldview at that time can be called anarchic.
In 1982 he graduated from high school with honors. In the same year he entered Harvard. He graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Social Sciences. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles. Morello began his Hollywood life relying only on himself. At first, he was unlucky, the young man had to starve to survive, he agreed to any job, in particular, he worked as a stripper.
Career
In 1991, Morello formed a group called Rage Against the Machine. In 1992, their first album of the same name was released.
In 2000, the last performance of the group took place at the Grand Olympic Auditorium. In 2003, the band's last album, Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium, was released.
After the breakup of Rage Against the Machine, Morello formed a new band, Audioslave. The band has recorded three albums.
In 2007, Rage Against the Machine reunited, and the band performed seven times during that year. The group continued the show in 2008, visiting Australia and New Zealand as well. The group continued their concert activities until 2011.
In 2016, Morello is part of the Prophets of Rage supergroup.
Personal life
Tom Morello and his wife Denis had two children.
Morello is often involved in political events. In particular, in 2011 he performed with other musicians against torture in Guantanamo prison. Participated in many actions of the Occupy movement.
Together with Serge Tankian, he created the Axis of Justice political movement, the main goal of which is to unite musicians and fans in the fight for social justice. In many of Morello's statements, you can see the communist ideology.
