Rory McCann is a Scottish film and television actor. He has more than thirty roles in films and television series. Rory became famous for the role of Sandor Clegane named "The Dog" in the famous TV series "Game of Thrones", for which the actor was nominated three times for the Screen Actors Guild Award and won the BAFTAScotland award.
McCann never dreamed of becoming an actor. Only thanks to the efforts of his friend, who was directly related to cinema, Rory decided to try himself in a cameo role in one of the television series. He liked filming, especially since he began to receive offers from directors regularly. As a result, McCann nevertheless made a choice in favor of cinema, although he admitted more than once that popularity for him is a test to which he still could not get used to.
Childhood and adolescence
Rory was born in Scotland in the spring of 1969. Almost nothing is known about his parents and childhood, because McCann does not like journalists, he in every possible way avoids questions about his biography and personal life.
In his school years, Rory did not stand out among his peers, except that he was thin and small in stature. Classmates constantly made fun of him. And then the boy decided to start actively playing sports and going to the gym. Gradually, his figure changed and, in addition, the young man became almost two meters tall. They stopped teasing him in class, they began to call him "big." This nickname stuck with him until the end of his studies at school.
Another hobby of youthful years was rock climbing. McCanna spent a lot of time in the mountains and loves nature very much. Perhaps it was this that influenced the choice of his profession as a forester, which he received, continuing his education in one of the colleges in Scotland.
Creative way
To earn his living and study, Rory worked hard. He was a worker, carpenter, painter and even a designer. He did not even think about the career of an actor in those years, although he still got on television. His colorful appearance was noticed by one of the casting agents for the advertisement, and Rory was invited to the shooting. For a while he advertised Scott's Porage Oats, a popular porridge in Scotland. On one of the shootings, he even had to try on a national Scottish costume, which attracted the attention of the audience even more. According to the stories of Rory himself, in advertising they paid more attention to him than to porridge, and even began to recognize him on the street, ask for an autograph.
But shooting in commercials did not lead Rory to big cinema, although he continued to work with television, starred in several episodic roles in the series: "Pied Piper", "London is Burning", "Master of the Valley". Although McCann strongly resisted filming, his friend - director L. Ramsey - literally forced the young man to start working on the set. As a result, after a while Rory even began to like the acting profession, and then he decided to try himself in big cinema.
Success came to McCann after the comedy "Book Club", where he got the role of lifeguard Kenny McLeod. For this role, Rory was awarded a BAFTA and was recognized as the best actor on television.
In the early 2000s, McCann began acting in Hollywood. His appearance attracted the attention of filmmakers. Already in 2004 he got the role of Crater in the film "Alexander" by the famous Oliver Stone.
This was followed by work in the films: "The Time of the Witches", "Solomon Kane", "Clash of the Titans" and finally in the series "Game of Thrones", after which McCann came to world fame and fame. Many actors applied for the role of Clegan, but the choice was made by the director J. Martin, who saw in Rory exactly the data that was necessary to embody the image of Sandor Clegan on the screen.
Personal life
Rory does not tell anyone about her personal life. To close the topic of his personal and family relationships forever, in Scotland, he gave one small interview on local television, in which he said that he was not married and was not going to tie the knot yet. The family, according to him, requires too much attention and time, but McCann does not have this time at all.
Despite the fact that Rory is surrounded by many beautiful women on the set, he never got involved with anyone and did not even give a reason to think that someone could claim to win his heart.
He spends his free time on rock climbing, loves to travel and spends most of his time on a yacht in order to run into his fans as little as possible.
