At the Olympics in Athens, according to Gaidarbekov, the members of the Russian team were not treated very hospitably, the fights were judged incompetently.

Gaidarbek's decisive battle was with Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan. It was a meeting between the two favorites of the tournament. The first rounds Gennady dominated, but the Dagestani was able to take the initiative into his own hands, showing a beautiful fight, skillfully breaking through the opponent's defense. Despite the obvious superiority of Gaidarbekov, the champion was worried that the won medal could be unreasonably given to Kazakhstan. Moreover, in the semifinals in Athens, Evgeny Makarenko and Sergei Kazakov were openly condemned. The guys just didn't get a few points. Then even experts representing different states suggested that some sets of medals were distributed in advance.
