Biography
Alexander Vasilyevich Gazov was born in the Moscow region in the village of Bykovo. This significant event took place in June 1946.
The boy's father was an avid hunter and often took Alexander with him to the forest. Here the parent taught the child to shoot, often told him about the device of the weapon. Therefore, when Alexander was 12 years old, he went to the trap shooting section. But in parallel, the boy was also involved in speed skating, in which he achieved considerable success. So, when Alexander was 14 years old, he was able to complete the speed running program, for which he was awarded a youth rank. Then Alexander faced a dilemma - to devote himself to speed skating or shooting? A father's gift helped to resolve this issue. When the young man was 16 years old, his dad gave him a real shotgun for sports shooting.
Career
So the young man began to seriously engage in the chosen sport. When he served in the army, he switched from trap shooting to shooting at moving targets. The future famous athlete achieved his first successes in 1973. Then he participated in international competitions that took place in Australia. A moving target in the form of a wild boar obeyed Alexander. The young man took first place at these competitions.
Before the 1976 Olympic Games, Alexander Vasilyevich became the winner of the USSR Championship. Thus, he secured a ticket to the Olympic Games of the same year. By that time, Alexander Gazov had already studied the weapon so well that he was able to modernize his Walther rifle by shortening the barrel.
After a while, this company began to produce just such shortened rifles.
Olympiad
Alexander Gazov made a great contribution to the number of victories of the Soviet team at the 1976 Olympic Games. But it didn't start out so smoothly. In training, Alexander disappeared only in dozens. When it was necessary to make the main shot, he shot in the eight. They say that the young man got really angry and then only dozens were in his target - during the remaining 9 attempts. This result became not only a world record, but also brought Alexander Gazov first place at the Olympic Games. After 4 years, the shooter took part in the next major competition. At the 1980 Olympics, he took third place.
