In 2013, the 66th International Film Festival was held in Cannes. This time the jury was headed by the cult American director Steven Spielberg. Together with him, the best of the best were chosen by those invited to the jury: Nicole Kidman, Vidya Balan, Daniel Otoy, Christopher Waltz, Lynn Ramsey, Christian Munjiu, Ang Lee and Naomi Kawase. The main prize of the Cannes Film Festival - Palme d'Or - in 2013 went to the French film The Life of Adele. Chapter 1 and 2 "(La vie d'Adèle) directed by Abdelatif Keshish. This is a picture of growing up, which tells about the first love and unconventional relationships of French youth. The film is based on the graphic novel "Blue is the Warmest Color", and it was under this name that the film was released in Russia.

The Grand Prix (or Grand Jury Prize) of the 66th Film Festival was won by the film "Inside Llewyn Davis" by the Coen brothers, co-produced by the US and France. This is a lyrical musical comedy about the life of university bohemians and folk performers of the sixties of the last century.

The jury prize was awarded to the Japanese film "What is the father, so is the son" (Soshite chichi ni naru) directed by Hirokazu Koreeda.

The Best Directing Award went to Mexican Amat Escalante, who directed the social drama Heli. This is the fifth work of a young filmmaker who has gone from assistant director to Cannes laureate.

The winner of the Cannes Film Festival was the Chinese screenwriter, director and producer Jia Zhangke, his script for the film "A Story of Sin" (Tian zhu ding) was recognized as the best.

The prize for Best Actor went to American actor Bruce Dern, who played a naive old alcoholic in Alexander Payne's film Nebraska.

Also noted was the work of the French actress Bruce Dern in Le passé. She received the award for Best Actress.

The Cambodian film L'image manquante, directed by Riti Panha, received the main prize in the program "Unassigned View". And the Frenchman Alain Guirody, who directed the film "Stranger on the Lake" (L'inconnu du lac), was awarded the prize for the best director. This picture also received a special award from the film festival - Queer Palm.
