Gennaro Gattuso is a famous Italian footballer, and since 2013 he has also been a coach. 2006 world champion with the national team and twice winner of the Champions League with Milan.
Biography
Gennaro Ivan Gattuso saw our world in 1978 on January 9, in the small Italian town of Corigliano Calabro in the Calabria region. Since childhood, the boy wanted to play football, and his parents approved of his desire. He began his ascent to the football Olympus with the football academy of the small club "Perugia". After seven years in the youth squad, Gattuso made his debut for the senior team in the Serie A match against Bologna. In total, the rising star played 10 matches for Perugia, in which he did not have time to excel.
Career
In 1997, Gattuso was to move to Scotland. Perugia agreed to transfer the player to one of the best clubs in this country - the Rangers. Gennaro was distinguished by a very rough and aggressive game, but thanks to the mentor of the new team Walter Smith, the guy learned to control himself and played a full season for the Rangers. In 34 matches, he even scored 3 goals.
Despite the positive dynamics of the player, he failed to stay in the team. There were big changes on the coaching bridge, and Dick Advocaat came to replace Smith, whom Gattuso himself called the second father. The new coach of the team could not come up with an effective use of the guy's talents, and at the end of 1998 he was sent to the Italian club "Salernitana", at that time playing in the top division of the country. During 10 months of being in the team, Gattuso appeared 25 times on the field, but could not score goals.
In 1999, a very important moment happened in Gennaro Gattuso's career - one of the most prestigious clubs in Italy, Milan, became interested in him. In the same year, he first appeared in the colors of the Red-Blacks against Chelsea London in the Champions League. In the first season, he played 22 matches for the new team and was firmly entrenched in the base, consistently appearing in the starting lineup.
In total, for the famous Italian club Gennaro played 468 matches and managed to score 11 goals. The low performance of the player is due to the fact that he played in the midfield and performed the functions of a destroyer. During his long career at Milan, the footballer twice became the champion of Italy, won the Italian Cup and twice became the owner of the most coveted trophy at the club level - the Champions League Cup.
In May 2012, the permanent captain of Milan announced his retirement, and he bequeathed the coveted bandage to Antonio Nocerino, who left the club in 2016. A little more than a month later, Gennaro announced that he would continue his career in Switzerland, at the little-known club Sion. Moving there as a player, he also took over as coach, claiming that he came to bring victory to the club and compete with the local hegemon Basel.
But alas, it was not possible to go further than words, after 10 matches in which the team somehow scored 11 points, Gattuso was removed from his post as a coach, nevertheless he continued to play for the team as a player. After "Sion" he managed to train: "Palermo", Greek "OFI" and "Salernitana" where he began his football career. In 2017 he returned to Milan as head coach, where he continues to work to this day.
National team
As part of the Italian national team, Gattuso first appeared in February 2000, in the same year he scored the first and only goal for the national team against England. In total, in the colors of Italy, Gattuso appeared on the field 73 times over the course of 10 years. In 2006, after the victory of the national team in the infamous final Italy - France, Gattuso became the world champion.
