The authoritative British magazine Sight & Sound ("Sight and Sound"), dedicated to everything connected with the world of cinema, makes lists of the best world films every 10 years. In early August 2012, the publication also published the top of the best paintings.
According to film experts, the first place in the list of the best films was Alfred Hitchcock's picture "Dizziness". The 1958 film about Detective Ferguson still gains the highest scores in all film ratings.
The second place in the top ten went to Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles in 1941. In the previous version of the list of the best films of the Sight & Sound edition, the film took first place. She retains leading positions in other authoritative publications as well.
Closing the top three is the Japanese film, released in 1952, "Tokyo Story" directed by Yasujiro Ozu. A film about the relationship between two generations - fathers and children - is constantly present in various tops, and in 1992 it took first place according to Sight & Sound.
The fourth position was taken by Jean Renoir's French film "The Rules of the Game", filmed in 1939. This drama about difficult relationships, love and hate is not for the first time recognized as an outstanding achievement of European cinema.
Fifth and sixth places were taken, respectively, "Sunrise" by Friedrich Murnau, released in 1927, and "A Space Odyssey 2001" (1968) directed by Stanley Kubrick.
On the eighth and ninth positions of the top list of the best films according to Sight & Sound are the films: "The Seekers" (1956) directed by John Ford and "The Man with a Movie Camera" (1929) directed by Dziga Vertov.
Ninth and tenth places were taken by films: "The Passion of Joan of Arc" (1928) directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer and "Eight and a Half" (1963) by Federico Fellini.
They were included in the list of the best films and pictures of Soviet production, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. The film "Mirror" took 19th place, "Andrey Rublev" took 26th place, "Stalker" - 29th.
Top 10 from directors according to Sight & Sound came out as follows: "Tokyo Story"; A Space Odyssey 2001; Citizen Kane; "8 and a half"; "Taxi driver"; Apocalypse Now; "Godfather"; "Dizziness"; "Mirror"; Bicycle Thieves.
