In Orthodox Christianity, there is a rite of consecration of one's home, during which the blessing of the Lord is invoked on the house and the people living in it. It is believed that due to this, the power of evil spirits weakens and the peace in the house depends only on the residents themselves.

It is necessary

  • - an icon;
  • - Holy water;
  • - incense;
  • - a new bowl.

Instructions

Step 1

According to Orthodox traditions, a priest should consecrate a dwelling. To do this, come to the temple and talk with any clergyman or the priest himself about the possibility of performing this rite. This is never denied, but the time and day are chosen in such a way that it is convenient for both parties. In the course of the conversation, also ask what is needed on your part for the consecration of the house, and what will be the amount of the donation in the form of gratitude. But even if you have no money, they cannot refuse. The amount of donation for this ceremony is usually determined only by your desire and capabilities.

Step 2

Buy candles in the church, an icon of the savior, if you don't have one, and special stickers with crosses that the priest will stick on the walls. Usually the priest brings all this with him, but just in case, you'd better stock up on them.

Step 3

Clean up the house on the eve of the ceremony. Your home should be clean and bright, both literally and figuratively - do not swear on this day and do not keep bad thoughts in your head. If there are souvenirs or figurines from other countries placed around the apartment, for example, Turkish eyes, zodiac signs or a Buddha figurine, remove them too.

Step 4

Place a small table in the room and cover it with a clean white tablecloth. Perhaps the priest will need it to put things for the ceremony on it.

Step 5

During the consecration, you are next to the priest. If you know the prayers he is reading, repeat them with him. After the ceremony, thank the priest and, if possible, give a donation to the church.

Step 6

When there is no way to invite the priest, consecrate the house with holy water yourself. In any case, it will be a godly deed, but the rite of consecration by a representative of the church will not replace.

Step 7

Prepare the house for consecration as described above, and then place the icon of the Savior or the Virgin Mary in the corner opposite the door (red corner). Place an icon lamp under it. Pour consecrated water into a new, clean dish, dip the three fingers of your right hand into it, and spray the corners of the house, going around them clockwise, starting from the red corner. During the consecration, say: "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, by sprinkling this sacred water into flight, let every evil demonic act turn into flight, amen." After that, leave the burning lamp in the room until evening.
