For Rodrigo Fomins, there were never any boundaries in music. Throughout his life, he has combined incongruous and disparate styles, be it jazz, pop or rock. In his performance, the songs were always unique and had their own unforgettable style, which later became his "calling card".
Biography and career of Rodrigo Fomins
Rodrigo Fomins is a Latvian by birth, born in the small town of Liepaja. He got his exotic name from his father, who liked everything Spanish. To his fans, he is better known under the pseudonym Igo, which is an abbreviation of his real name.
A boy was born into a creative family. Mother Irina Tire was one of the most famous artists in Latvia. Rodrigo's half-brother, Ivo, also became a musician, however, he did not achieve popularity.
In his youth, the singer graduated from a music school in the violin class and continued his studies at the vocal department. From childhood, the boy really liked to write poetry and draw. These qualities helped the man to become a first-class artist.
Rodrigo Fomins began his career with the Corpus group. However, the interests of the young man changed and he continued his further career with the groups "Livi", "Liepājas kvartets", "Remix" and "Riga". A significant role in the singer's life was played by the Remix group, with which he toured for a long time. Eyewitnesses said that Igo sang so emotionally and convincingly that at times it seemed that the singer was too wasteful with his voice. However, he believed that if you do not give all your best, then there can be no question of any vocals. The singer was always worried about the sound of the voice together with the pop orchestra, so he constantly experimented and found new vocal solutions.
In 1984 he performed at the Latvian Music Festival, where he received the title of "Best Soloist". At the competition of young performers "Jurmala-86" he becomes the owner of the Grand Prix. The songs "As in an old song" and "Mushroom rain" brought him victory.
In 1987, at the Song of the Year festival, he received a laureate with the work Letters of the Wind.
However, music was not Rodrigo's only hobby. All his life he dreamed of the theater. In 1988, his dream came true. He performed the main role in the opera Lachplesis. He later performed the roles of Quasimodo in Notre Dame Cathedral and Gelsomino in The Adventures of Gelsomino in the Land of Liars.
In the 90s, Rodrigo Fomins decided to pursue a solo career. He begins to collaborate with many famous Latvian composers, such as: Janis Lusens, Raimondo Pauls, Imants Kalnins. Over the years of his solo career, the singer has traveled to a huge number of cities and countries on tour. He managed to visit Russia, Belarus, Norway, Sweden, France and the USA.
In the winter of 1998, he released a collection of his best songs entitled "This is Igo", and in 1999 - his first solo album, "Everything is different in life." Throughout his creative career, Rodrigo Fomins has released more than 10 albums.
The tragedy in the life of Igo
A terrible car accident, which almost cost the singer his life, became a black spot in his entire successful life. According to him, he was traveling with a personal driver on the tour, which was scheduled for May 8, 10 and 11. While in the back seat of the car, Rodrigo felt a strong jolt from behind and passed out. The car driving behind him lost control and drove into his car at full speed. Rodrigo Fomins injured his back and head, however, refused hospitalization. According to him, he has never canceled concerts due to health conditions and this case should not be an exception.
The creative life of Rodrigo Fomins today
After the accident, Igo continued his tour and performed on the best stages in the country. In 2008, the singer celebrated the 30th anniversary of his creative activity on the stage of Arena Riga. In 2012 he gives a grand concert in Latvia with the participation of the Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra.
After 22 years, he decides to return with a tour to Russia. In November and December 2012 concerts are held in Moscow and St. Petersburg. On September 30, 2018, within the framework of the festival of oriental music, a concert of Rodrigo Fomins took place in Riga.
Personal life of Rodrigo Fomins
As soon as it comes to the personal life of the famous Igo, the singer's face immediately lights up with a smile. According to him, he is married to the best woman in the world, who gave him two sons. The eldest son is 30 years old and he is a famous photographer. Throughout his life, he traveled a lot and achieved a lot, but despite this, the young man dreams of opening a bakery in his hometown.
The youngest son followed in his father's footsteps and became a musician. The group in which the son plays, raises doubts among the famous Igo, however, he does not intend to prevent his son from fulfilling his dream. In addition, at 18, the young man is a fairly famous tattoo artist and is not at all tied to the famous name of his father.
Igo speaks about the future with irony. He believes that his career as a rock singer should have ended by the age of 40, however, this did not happen. As long as I am alive, my songs are also alive. It doesn't matter to me what I will do in ten or twenty years, but can I go on stage, go into the studio? It is important that you retain interest in life and the ability to be useful to at least one person.
