The concepts of "coalition" and "opposition" are inherent in the political sphere of human activity. They determine the cohesion, community of people, while they are by no means synonymous.
Coalition
A coalition is an association on a voluntary basis of several individuals or groups of individuals who can be represented by political parties or states in order to achieve a set goal.
A coalition differs from other types of grouping in that each of its members can pursue their own affairs, which do not relate to the coalition goals. Each member of the coalition is independent. After achieving the set goal, the coalition association may cease to exist.
One example of a coalition association at the state level is a military association, i.e. the unification of the military forces of several countries against one enemy. One of the most famous coalition associations in the world is the anti-Hitler coalition, which was formed during the war years 1941-1945.
In countries where there are a large number of parties, there is a party coalition. It can be parliamentary and pre-election. The first type is created when no party has a majority of parliamentary seats. The second type is found in countries where there is a percentage barrier during the voting period: a leader is selected from several parties to represent their interests in the elections.
Opposition
Opposition in the political environment is an association of parties, organizations that oppose the government course of a particular state.
The opposition can play a certain role in various state systems of government, presenting alternative ways of developing society and statehood, offering its citizens a choice.
In countries with a totalitarian regime, the possibility of the emergence of opposition associations is excluded. Under an authoritarian regime, opposition structures are persecuted in view of the threat to power.
Under a democratic regime, the opposition is an indispensable aid in the rotation of the parties that are in power. The opposition of the democratic type is one of the most famous. It is found in many countries around the world. Opposition parties strive to make society more democratic, and therefore objections and disagreement with the decisions of the current government are expressed in three forms:
- political manifestation, - non-violent protest, - violent protest in the form of the overthrow of the government.
Opposition forces, as a rule, are consolidated and stable, they may differ in loyalty to the system and power, but in the event of confrontation they easily join other opposition groups.
