Petra Kvitova is one of the most famous Czech tennis players. This charming girl is the winner of the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in Rio de Jainero in 2016 and twice the winner of the most prestigious tennis tournament - Wimbledon.
Biography
In March 1990, on the eighth, in the small Czechoslovak town of Bilovets, the future tennis player Petra Kvitova was born. The girl grew up as a very active child and from an early age wanted to play sports.
Her parents Jiri and Pavel were very passionate about tennis, however, they were engaged in it at an amateur level. But, of course, they were able to interest children in their favorite sport. In addition to Petra, her two brothers, Libor and Jiri, were happy to go to the court with mom and dad in the family. Despite her general passion for tennis, only Petra was able to achieve real success.
Career
For the first time at the competition of the professional women's tennis association, Petra appeared at the age of sixteen in 2006. The ITF Qualifier is virtually the only opportunity for amateurs to showcase their skills, preparation and perseverance. Petra took part in a tournament held in the Czech town of Prostejev, and her debut was a success. Victory in all three qualifying matches, the young tennis player won. And just two months later, she won the first tournament in her career and won the ITF title.
Six months later, the ambitious athlete took part in the WTA competitions, but could not qualify for the home tournament, which was held in Prague. Two months later, a similar tournament was held in Stockholm, Sweden, where Kvitova was able to qualify and played her first match at such a high level. In the same 2007, she first played for the national team of her native Czech Republic in the Federation Cup.
In 2008, Kvitova took part in one of the most prestigious tennis competitions - the Grand Slam tournament. Unfortunately, due to high competition and an impressive number of more experienced athletes, Petra was unable to make it through the qualifying matches.
Real success came to the athlete in 2011. Kvitova took part in one of the Grand Slam tournaments in Wimbledon, where she devastatingly defeated all her rivals and won the title. For seven matches played, Petra lost only two sets to her opponent. In the Roland Garros tournament, she was able to reach the fourth stage, but lost to the future winner of the competition, Chinese Li Na. Also this year she won the Fed Cup as part of her national team. For all the successes of 2011, the International Tennis Federation recognized Kvitova as the tennis player of the year. In the same year, Petra took the highest position in the WTA rankings, second place.
Today, Kvitova continues to play tennis and is quite successful: in 2019, at a tournament in Australia, she won another trophy.
Personal life
The famous tennis player does not like to talk about her personal life. She dated hockey player Radek Meidl for a long time, they were engaged and were even going to get married, but in 2016 they broke up.
