Step 1
Before starting your search, gather as much information as possible about the missing relative. Talk to your grandmother, parents. Let them tell what they remember. Ask if there are any old photos and letters from the front. These will be very valuable finds. On the envelope you can see the date of dispatch and the area of hostilities. Then you will have a starting point from which to begin your search. In addition, a handwriting sample can help further identify the remains.
Step 2
After collecting all the information, go to the sites that store information about the missing soldiers. Their databases are constantly updated, as searches for unmarked graves are still going on. In the required line on the portal, indicate the year of birth, surname, name and rank of the participant in the Great Patriotic War. You will see a list of those who match the description. If you could not find a person, write to the site administration and leave a request. As soon as any information appears, you will be contacted.
Step 3
Seek help from the military-patriotic clubs that definitely exist in your area. You can find them in historical institutes, former palaces of pioneers, in schools. Pass the information about the wanted to their members. They have access to archival data and will try to find out the most accurate information about the whereabouts of the missing person's grave.
Step 4
Write to the program "Wait for me". This can be done on the transfer website or by sending a letter to the address Moscow, st. Academician Koroleva, 12. Indicate all the information you have about the missing soldier, attach a photo, if available. Search engines, after receiving the envelope, will enter the data into the program database. And they will begin to search for information about the whereabouts of the remains of the missing. As soon as something becomes known, you will be contacted by phone numbers, which do not forget to indicate at the end of the letter.
