Early biography and first acting work

Lake Bell (full name - Lake Siegel Bell) was born on March 24, 1979. Her mother's name was Robin Bell, and her father's name was Harvey Siegel.

It is known that Lake studied at Chapin School (New York), as well as at Westminster School (Simsbury, Connecticut). In addition, for some time she received a higher theater education at Rose Bruford College in London. Here she played quite a lot in classical performances (for example, in The Seagull based on the play by Chekhov and in the production of Six Degrees of Alienation based on the play by John Guire).

Her career as a film and TV actress began in 2002. This year she starred in the film "Speakeasy" and also appeared in two episodes of the famous TV series "Ambulance" about the everyday life of doctors.

And her first really significant role was in the TV movie "War Without Rules" (2003). Here she played the role of the ambitious but rather naive journalist Nora Stone.

Further career as an actress

One of Lake Bell's most memorable roles is that of lawyer Sally Heap. She portrayed Sally in the last four episodes of the legal series The Practice (those episodes aired on American TV in the spring of 2004) and in the first and third seasons of his spin-off series The Boston Lawyers.

But the real fame for the actress came in the second half of the 2000s. The year 2008 was especially fruitful. This year, several good films with her participation were released at once. In Bride from the Other World, Lake Bell played the medium Ashley Clarke. And in the film "Pride and Glory" her heroine was called Megan Egan. And although this heroine did not have so much screen time, she was still remembered by the audience. It's also worth noting that Lake Bell's co-stars on Pride and Glory were Edward Norton and Colin Farrell.

Another highly successful 2008 film featuring Lake Bell is Once Upon a Time in Vegas (its budget was 35 million, and it grossed $ 220 million at the box office). Here she played Tipper, the girlfriend of the main character.

In 2009, Lake starred in the film Simple Difficulties, and also took part in the voice acting of the computer game Prototype (she was entrusted to voice such a character as Dana Mercer).

In 2014, Lake's acting could be seen in the sports drama A Hand in a Million, and in 2015 in the melodrama Red Date. In "Red Date", by the way, she played the main character - a 34-year-old single woman named Nancy, who once was lucky enough to find a new boyfriend through the so-called "blind date."

In recent years, Bell has often worked in cartoon projects as a voice actress. For example, in The Secret Life of Pets (2016) and The Secret Life of Pets 2, she voiced Chloe the cat. And in the cartoon "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" (2018), the heroine Vanessa Fisk spoke in her voice.

Lake Bell as a director

In 2010, Bell directed her first film, the short film "Worst Enemy." Here she, by the way, acted not only as a director, but also as a scriptwriter. And the main roles in this film were played by Lindsay Sloan, Michaela Watkins and Matt Walsh. "Worst Enemy" was not released, but was shown at several festivals - at the Sundance Film Festival 2011, the Nantucket Film Festival (here this tape even won the Tony Cox Award for the script), the Dallas International Film Festival, the Aspen Shortsfest, etc.

In 2013, the first full-length work of Lake Bell appeared on the screens - the film Behind the Scenes. The main character here is called Carol (played by Lake herself). She makes a living by scoring films. At the same time, she has a difficult relationship with her father - he wants Carol to move out from him and live separately. On top of that, he plans to bring his young mistress into the house …

Four years later, in 2017, Bell directed and released her second feature film. It was named "Agree, but for a while." Here the main character is a documentary filmmaker. He monitors three married couples at different stages of their relationship. The documentary filmmaker wants to check what will happen if the newlyweds do not just get married, but conclude a contract for seven years with the possibility of renewal …

In the end, Lake Bell produced and directed the television series Bless This Mess in 2019. This series tells the story of a couple who decide to move from a huge metropolis to a farmhouse off the beaten track. However, pretty soon a man and a woman realize that rural life is far from ideal …
