It also happens that a person is tired to go home on a bike back, although he got to the right place on it. The rules for transporting bicycles on the metro are quite complex and not all cyclists are happy with them.
Rules for transporting bicycles in the metro
There is a document that regulates the transportation of bicycles and other things in the metro - “Rules for using the metro”. These rules are practically the same in all Russian cities that have a subway.
There is usually not a word about the transportation of bicycles. It is not said that riding with a bicycle is allowed, but there is no direct prohibition on this either. It is for this reason that some cyclists enter the metro with their bicycles, and no one hinders them. Others are stopped. The fact is that the “Rules” state that it is forbidden to transport cargo, the size of which in height and two bases in total exceeds 220 cm, and it is also forbidden to transport objects that may injure or stain other passengers. The bicycle can theoretically get other passengers dirty, this is one of the reasons for the ban on its transportation. He can also injure someone on the escalator, provided that you do not restrain him.
In addition, there is a postcard "On the procedure for transporting bicycles in the subway", written in 2008, where it is written that it is prohibited to carry a bicycle in the subway. According to this document, the bike can only be transported unassembled, packed in a cover. In 2002, a previous version of this postcard was created, it indicated that it was possible to transport a bicycle from which one of the wheels was removed. Not all cyclists are aware of the tightening of these requirements.

If the controller or a responsible metro employee does not allow you to transport your bike on the metro, then there is no point in bickering or arguing with him: he just observes the law. Therefore, you should prepare in advance for transporting your two-wheeled friend by purchasing or making your own bicycle cover. By the way, a bicycle in a case can be transported not only on the subway, but also on a train or plane.
The easiest option is to buy a case from a store. The cheapest models of covers cost about 600 rubles, and if you often transport your bike in the subway or other types of transport, this will be a profitable purchase.
You can also sew the cover yourself, there is nothing complicated about it. The main thing is to make a pattern according to the size of your own bike, after removing the front wheel and folding it together with the rear one. If you are sewing a cover only for transporting a bicycle in the subway, then you do not need to worry about packing the handlebars: it's okay if it sticks out.
