On the night of July 6-7, 2012, a heavy downpour hit 3 cities in the Krasnodar Territory (Krymsk, Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk). He caused a destructive flood. As a result, more than 170 people died and more than 7,000 houses were under water. The strongest blow of the elements fell on Krymsk, where every second family suffered.
The natural disaster that happened in the summer of 2012 became the largest in the Kuban in history. Tens of thousands of people lost their property, livelihood and roof over their heads. Water, gas and power supply systems, access roads and railways were destroyed.
In the first days after the flood, representatives of the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar administration reported that Krymsk was sorely lacking basic necessities: drinking water, food, personal hygiene products and a scarf to accommodate victims.
In many cities of Russia, round-the-clock collection points for humanitarian aid to victims of the flood were opened, where people brought things necessary for life: food, medicines, clothes, shoes. Which were then sent by wagons to the place of a natural disaster.
Restoration work began in the city. About 7000 volunteers arrived in Krymsk to clear it from rubble, dig wells, provide medical assistance to those in need, etc. As ITAR-TASS notes, volunteering in Krymsk has become the largest civil initiative outside the capital region of all time.
Soon the need for clothes disappeared, more than enough of it was collected and sent to Krymsk, but there was still a shortage of drinking water, food with long shelf life, bedding (cots or camp beds, blankets, pillows, mattresses), personal hygiene, detergents and mosquito repellent. The residents of Krymsk need benches, chairs, candles, lanterns, matches, basins, buckets, mops, rubber boots and galoshes, as well as construction kits for restoration work: tools, drills, drills.
The doctors who arrived in Krymsk note that there is an acute shortage of pain relievers and medicines for patients with diabetes mellitus, heart disease and pregnant women.
