Numerous innovations in the army, especially regarding its structure, can confuse anyone. Including, probably, spies. It is not easy for a person who is not very familiar with the secrets of the Ministry of Defense to say how many, for example, there are branches of the armed forces in the country and what is the difference between a branch of the Armed Forces and one of their branches.
Earth, water, air
The first thing that attracts attention when studying the structure of the Armed Forces, or for short, the Armed Forces, is the curious commitment of the military to the number 3. It turns out that we have exactly three types of troops, as well as three separate branches. One involuntarily recalls three epic heroes, the three-headed Serpent Gorynych, songs about three tankmen and three comrades who served in the same regiment.
Species include the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force, with each of the three having its own genus. The list of individual arms includes strategic missile forces (Strategic Missile Forces), airborne forces (Airborne Forces), as well as aerospace defense forces. All three families are capable not only of acting together with others, but also of solving completely independent military tasks.
Not a single infantry
The most numerous genus in terms of the number of employees in it are the ground forces. In the old fashioned way, they are sometimes referred to as infantry. Although it is the infantry that has not been in them for a long time, it was replaced by motorized rifle units, which are considered the most mobile type of SV. The motorized infantry of the Russian army is supplemented by tank and missile troops, artillery, special troops (airborne assault battalions, reconnaissance, communications, engineering, chemical), and rear troops. The main tactical goal is to conduct a rapid offensive and defense, capture and hold territory and objects.
The Air Force also consists of several clans. They have long-range, front-line, army, military transport and special aviation, anti-aircraft missile and radio-technical troops. The main striking force of the Navy is ships capable of fighting above and below water. In addition to them, there are coastal units in the fleet, naval aviation and formations of marines and special forces formed for power operations and reconnaissance.
"Rex", "landing" and "cosmonauts"
The Strategic Missile Forces, whose servicemen ironically call themselves "Rex", were created to destroy enemy military targets with ultra-long-range missiles. The main purpose of the Airborne Forces, which have been living and fighting since 1930 under the motto "Nobody but us!", Is to conduct special operations behind enemy lines. Paratroopers often carry out a sudden landing from the air along with equipment, regardless of the time, weather and strength of the enemy. It is these troops that are often used in “hot spots” and various peacekeeping operations.
The space forces that appeared in 1957 and the "cosmonauts" serving in them can be considered a kind of shield for the country, protecting against a nuclear missile attack. Another function of these strategic forces is space reconnaissance and the extraction of classified data thanks to high technologies.
