Military awards are a symbol of valor, courage and bravery of those who deserve them with their military labor. Orders and medals on military uniforms look very impressive. In addition to awards, there are also order ribbons, which look like small slats covered with fabric. Such order pads were introduced in the Soviet army during the Great Patriotic War.
What is an order block
The order strip (block) is a device designed to be worn on the uniform of the order ribbon. The basis of the structure is a rectangular substrate, which can be made of metal or dense fabric. The fabric strip is more convenient in the sense that it allows you to choose the color of the product in accordance with the shade of the uniform.
The metal medal strip is attached to the form with a pin, which is located on the back of the product. The fabric-backed placket is simply sewn to the garment in the right place, namely on the left side of the chest.
If there are a lot of awards, the straps are not worn separately, but are put together, fixing in a common last.
Individual tapes are attached to the block in a strictly defined order, which is regulated by the documents of the relevant department, for example, the Ministry of Defense or the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The higher the reward in terms of its status, the higher it should be located in the stock. Each award has its own ribbon color. Some of the highest awards, for example, Hammer and Sickle and Gold Star, do not have separate order bars.

Order ribbons in the USSR were introduced by a special decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the country dated June 19, 1943. Each medal or order received a ribbon with a specific color pattern. The ribbon was attached to the uniform by means of a special rectangular strip. In this design, instead of awards, it was possible to wear substitutes without risking losing or damaging the order or medal.
The regulations did not allow wearing order strips with ribbons on work, field and everyday uniforms.
In February 2013, Sergei Shoigu, the Minister of Defense of Russia, made a decision, according to which servicemen are required to sew award ribbons in the form of pads not only on a uniform jacket, but also on shirts or sweaters. The feasibility of such a solution is determined by the fact that modern uniforms differ from those that were used several decades ago.
Military historian Andrei Zhukov believes that this type of wearing is not typical for the Russian army. It is more often used in southern countries with warm climates, where the tunic is used very rarely. The innovation, however, does not apply to other law enforcement agencies. In the bodies and troops that are part of the system of subordination of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, award strips are still worn only on a uniform jacket.
