Exercise is good for your health. At the same time, no one expects world records from schoolchildren. In some cases, established champions themselves are surprised at their achievements. Honored Master of Sports Yevgeny Podgorny came to the gymnastics section so as not to hang out idle on the street.
Starting conditions
As evidenced by impartial statistics, climatic conditions leave an imprint on hobbies and addictions. In Siberia, most of the active population goes skiing in winter. Those who cannot run go sledging down the mountains. Evgeny Anatolyevich Podgorny was born on July 9, 1977 in an ordinary Soviet family. Parents lived in the famous city of Novosibirsk. My father worked as an engineer at an aircraft building plant. Mother taught mathematics at school. All family members had skis and skates. Eugene was growing up as a boy, agile, but thin. When the boy was six years old, his parents racked their brains for a long time, in which sports section to enroll him.
After a comprehensive analysis and consultations with specialists, we decided to assign our son to the gymnastics section. Eugene began to study without much enthusiasm. But he did not miss classes. At that time, he was not going to connect his life with gymnastics. The first bell rang at the age of nine, when Podgorny took third place in the championship of the Novosibirsk region. Then the tournament for the championship of Western Siberia in Kemerovo took place, where the novice gymnast climbed a step higher - he won a silver medal.
Recognitions and achievements
When Podgorny was twelve years old, he was transferred to the youth school of the Olympic reserve. Within the walls of this educational institution, the training process is put on a professional basis. Along with sports training, Eugene received secondary education. At the age of fifteen, he was enrolled in the junior national team of Russia. From this moment on, the next Olympic cycle begins. All the creativity and efforts of coaches and athletes are aimed at successfully performing at the 1996 Olympics. After a tough and uncompromising struggle, the Russian team won. Podgorny received the title of Olympic champion.
After this victory, Russian gymnasts performed with dignity at international competitions. However, the rivals were not asleep either. At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Podgorny was content with bronze. By this time, the athlete began, as they say, to pester injuries and sores. Eugene decided to end his sports career. He received many offers to do coaching in Moscow, America and even Australia. But as a true Siberian, Podgorny returned to his hometown.
Charity and personal life
Evgeny Podgorny established the Common Cause charitable foundation to support and develop sports in Novosibirsk. In 2006, the renowned gymnast was elected a deputy of the regional council. Evgeny does a lot of work with young people. Helps voters to solve emerging problems.
The deputy's personal life has developed normally. Eugene is legally married. The husband and wife raised and raised their son. Life goes on.
