Anatoly Eduardovich Serdyukov is a Russian high-ranking official who gained fame in the mid-2000s. I especially remember his activities as the country's defense minister.
early years
Anatoly's biography began in 1962 in the Krasnodar Territory. He does not like to talk about his relatives and national roots. As a ten-year-old boy, he was brought up by his grandmother. Tolya grew up early, his working days began after the 8th grade. He worked during the day, in the evenings he studied at the evening school - he had to provide for his family. In the late 70s, Anatoly moved to Leningrad and joined the ranks of students. He chose an economic university and soon received a trade worker's diploma. Then he served in the Soviet Army, as a driver in a motorized rifle division, and after completing his officer's courses he retired to the reserve.
Work
The next few years, starting from 1985, are associated with the activities of Serdyukov at JSC Lenmebeltorg. In the association, he entered the head of the section, but soon became the right-hand man of the director of commerce. In 1993, Anatoly became one of the founders of the Mebel-Market trade association and headed it. In parallel with his work, he received a law degree from the University of St. Petersburg, a candidate and then a doctorate.
Civil service
In 2000, Serdyukov took the oath of office as a civil servant. From that moment, the meteoric rise of his career began. He started to work in the city inspectorate, then moved to the Moscow tax office and by 2004 became the head of the Russian Federal Tax Service. The period of its activity was marked by an increased increase in the collection of taxes to the country's budget. Already in the first half of its work, the plan was exceeded by $ 10 billion. Serdyukov made changes in the structure of the Federal Tax Service, which contributed to the efficiency of its work.
An important role was played by the official in the show case against the YUKOS oil company. The company was issued huge fines for underpayment of taxes, an amount of $ 27 billion appeared. After the funds were transferred to the state treasury, the company was declared bankrupt, the assets went under the hammer, and its management was persecuted.
Defense Minister
The appointment of Serdyukov to the post of defense minister came as a surprise to many. An economist and an official with an entry in the military card as a "reserve lieutenant" caused conflicting feelings among many. The country's leadership explained this step as necessary for the current moment and by the fact that the experience of a tax worker will be useful to the appointed leader of the army. The armed forces needed to master impressive funds, and this entailed the implementation of army reforms. The reform began in 2008 after the armed conflict in Ossetia. At that moment, it became finally clear that the army needed new weapons, communications and uniforms. In addition, changes were required in the command structure of the military.
During the years of his leadership of the military department, Serdyukov made a number of changes. As a result of the administrative reform, six military districts were transformed into four. There has been a significant reduction in the number of personnel and rotation of personnel throughout the country. The innovations affected education, a number of military educational institutions were united and enlarged. The term of military service was one year, and the equipment of the army was replenished with weapons of a foreign design. A new outfit appeared, the author of which was the couturier Valentin Yudashkin.
Criminal case
Perhaps the minister continued the reforms, if not for the criminal case opened in 2011. The head of the department was accused of fraud related to the sale of army property. The minister was in charge of the Oboronservis company, which was in charge of these issues. Valuable real estate and plots of land were sold at low cost. So the Investigative Committee revealed that only when 8 objects were sold, the treasury lost 3 billion rubles. The main person involved in the case was Evgenia Vasilieva, head of the property department of the Moscow region. The woman admitted that she had a close relationship with Serdyukov. A search of her apartment revealed significant sums of money, jewelry and antiques. At the end of 2012, the president put his signature on the minister's resignation document, and soon his name appeared in a new criminal case. He was charged with official negligence, which led to significant damage. As a result of the investigation, Serdyukov did not admit his guilt and refused to cooperate. In 2014, as a result of an amnesty, the case was stopped. Later, in an interview, Anatoly Eduardovich admitted that he felt his resignation, but did not think that he would have to leave with a scandal.
Personal life
Anatoly Serdyukov had two official marriages. He met his first wife Tatyana while studying in Leningrad. Then they were connected by a joint furniture business. In 1986, the couple had a son, Sergei, who lives abroad. The second marriage lasted ten years, starting in 2002. His chosen one was Yulia Pokhlebenina, the only daughter of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government Viktor Zubkov. In addition to the fact that Serdyukov entered the family of a famous parent, they were tied by a relationship at work. For this reason, at the beginning of his career as Minister of Defense, he applied for his resignation, but the President did not satisfy him. The ex-wife is a lawyer by training, is engaged in entrepreneurship and has two children. Daughter Natalia was born in a marriage with Anatoly, the eldest child Nastya was born in a previous relationship. The spouse and daughters were not affected by the scandal around the name of Anatoly. But the wife, who earned much more than her husband in 2010, soon filed for divorce herself. There is information that Serdyukov recently created a family with Evgenia Vasilyeva, but the couple does not comment on this fact.
How he lives now
Even after his resignation, Serdyukov remained in administrative work. A year later, he headed the Machine Building Center near Moscow. Then he became the head of the aircraft building company "Rosvertolet" and entered the board of directors of "KamAZ". Today the ex-minister is a member of the six largest Russian corporations and is a member of the Russian Engineering Union. The criminal case, which ended so well for him, did not affect his future career and allowed him to accumulate a good fortune.
Anatoly Eduardovich prefers active rest. In his spare time, which he does not have much, he goes downhill skiing, hunting and fishing.
