The green card drawing is an annual lottery organized by the US government for everyone who wants to live and work in America. Almost any person with secondary education who has reached the age of 18 can try his luck and become the owner of a plastic card. Of the millions of applications, only 55,000 will be selected. It is impossible to influence the results of the draw, but increasing your chances is not a difficult task.
It is necessary
- - international passport;
- - birth certificate;
- - certificate of marriage / divorce;
- - a document on secondary education or other documents;
- - military ID;
- - certificate of no criminal record.
Instructions
Step 1
Check out the lottery rules. They usually do not change from year to year, however, changes can be made.
Step 2
When filling out your personal data on the official website, be careful. Carefully check the spelling of the surname and first name with the data in the passport, if any. Or consult on the correct spelling of your name. Otherwise, the differences in personal data with the data in the passport, which you will need at the interview at the embassy in case of winning, will create big problems. After completing the questionnaire, write down the control number that you will need to enter to check your winnings.
Step 3
Pay special attention to the requirement for photographs of the applicant and his relatives (husband / wife, children). The photo must comply with all the rules. You can get acquainted with them on the official website directly during the acceptance of applications for the Green Card. Usually, examples of a correctly taken photograph are also given. An incorrect photo may be the reason for the denial of the draw.
Step 4
If you are married, it is advisable to apply for both spouses - this will double your chances of winning.
Step 5
The official notification of the win does not mean that the coveted green card is already in your pocket. As a rule, the US government selects twice as many applicants for the right to live and work in America. To be among the cardholders, prepare the necessary documents, undergo a medical examination. Get an account statement from the bank to confirm that you have sufficient funds to live for the first time, or enlist the support of friends, relatives - US citizens. Having a car, real estate and other property that you can sell is also a big plus. Bring your title deeds to your interview. Having a formal offer from your employer will increase your chances of a successful interview at the embassy.
Step 6
Although knowledge of English is not a requirement for obtaining a green card, basic language skills and a clear picture of what you plan to do upon arrival in the United States will play a positive role.
