The attitude to religion is a question so complex that it is simply impossible to exhaust it with two points of view “I believe” and “I do not believe”. There are many positions and the difference between them is insignificant so much that you cannot figure it out without a dictionary. In particular, quite often people find it unclear what is the difference between an "atheist" and an "agnostic", if neither one and the other do not consider themselves to be some kind of religion.
Atheism is the belief in the absence of God or any other higher intelligence. Often, atheists are people who deny the possibility of the existence of paranormal phenomena. In general, an atheist does not believe in anything that cannot be proven by experiment or verified by observation.
The agnostic is less critical. He does not say with certainty that there is no God, he only reports that it is impossible to find out the exact answer to this matter. In other words, a person considers any dispute about concepts that cannot be proved or refuted as meaningless. Such a position implies that its owner, given a sufficient number of undeniable arguments, can take both sides.
It is important to note that doubts about the religious affiliation of the true God are not agnostic at all. A person who is unsure of the legitimacy of the institution of the church itself or the plausibility of a particular religion belongs to anti-clericalism.
The simplest and least correct answer to the question posed in the title would be: "The atheist is confident, but the agnostic is doubtful." What is true in this statement is that atheism critically rejects the existence of God, much more willingly accepting the big bang theory. However, agnosticism is not necessarily a whole worldview.
Of course, he can act in the following sense: the belief that the world is objectively unknowable for a person. But this does not at all contradict atheism or any other faith. The very fact of recognition of the lack of evidence is important. For example, the position of an agnostic theist would be: "I know that you cannot prove the existence of God, but I want to believe in him." Nothing worse and scientific: "At the current stage of science, it is impossible to prove for sure the absence of God, but I am sure that it is."
