The rules of conduct in a restaurant at the table are based on expediency and convenience, compliance with certain ethical standards. The rules of etiquette provide for the correct use of cutlery. So what is the right way to eat food in a restaurant so as not to look like a "black sheep"?
Instructions
Step 1
Before you start your meal, take a napkin that is intended for individual use, unfold it and lay it on your lap. This will help protect your dress or pants from accidental drops, crumbs or splashes. After eating, you can wipe your fingers with this napkin; it is more correct to use your own handkerchief for your lips.
Step 2
Usually, food is taken from the plate with a fork, spoon, tongs or spatula. But there are also a number of foods that should be handled exclusively (biscuits, breads, fruits, cakes, citrus fruits and sugar). It is wrong to bite off a piece of bread, it will be correct to break off small pieces with your fingers. In some restaurants, the bread is cut into small pieces. When serving red or black caviar, place it on your plate with a special spatula, and then spread on small slices of bread. In the same way, butter and pate are eaten, using a special knife for spreading.
Step 3
Olives are eaten with a special coffee spoon or a special fork. Pick up the bones with a spoon and put them on a plate. Ordered oysters are served open. Take a shell in your left hand and use a fork to separate the clam, sprinkle with lemon juice and suck. Warm snacks (such as stuffed eggs) are eaten without a knife, impaled with a snack fork, and sent to the mouth.
Step 4
Along with lobsters, crayfish, crabs and shrimps, special cutlery is served - a sharp knife with a hole (with its help pincers break out) and a two-pronged fork. Open the crab shell with a knife and remove the meat with a fork. Also, a cup with acidified water for rinsing hands is served on the table, it is placed to the left of the main plate.
Step 5
Large, hot and layered sandwiches are eaten with a fork and knife. If you eat in the usual way (that is, holding it in your hands), then you get your hands dirty and you can drop the top layer on your clothes or tablecloth. Eat casseroles, puddings, and other vegetable snacks with a fork without using a knife. Screw the spaghetti onto a fork and quickly place in your mouth.
Step 6
Surely you are used to eating poultry dishes with your hands, but this is absolutely unacceptable in a restaurant. Divide the served portion at the joints with a knife and fork, it will be much easier to handle the individual pieces. Trim the meat from the outside to the bone. Some restaurants serve grilled chicken wrapped in foil. In this case, the client is expected to eat the meat with his hands. A cup of water is certainly served, where you can rinse your hands after a meal.
Step 7
Fish dishes are accompanied by a special fork and a knife in the shape of a small narrow blade. Holding a fork in your left hand and a knife in your right, separate the skin and then the meat from the bones. Do not spit out any bones on a plate; place them with a fork in a plate on the side of the main one.
Step 8
Eat the ordered soup scooping up a spoon from yourself, otherwise you may accidentally splash the costume. Scoop up as much liquid as you can get to your mouth without spilling. Bring the spoon to your mouth with the wide left edge. It is not supposed to cool the soup by stirring, it is better to wait until it cools down on its own. Eat quietly, do not blow into the spoon. Divide the meatballs and dumplings in the soup with a spoon.
