Mark Naumovich Bernes (real name - Neumann) was born on October 8, 1911. The place of his birth was the city of Nizhyn, in the Chernihiv region of Ukraine. Mark's father worked in an artel that collected waste materials. Mom was an ordinary housewife. When the boy was 5 years old, the family moved to Kharkov. Here Mark attended school, and then began to study at a theater college.
At first, the young man performed in amateur performances, and later began to act as an extra in one of the reputable theaters in Kharkov. Sometimes he was trusted to replace the sick actors. So he mastered his first serious roles. It was during those years that Mark began to use the pseudonym "Bernes".
The creative path of Mark Bernes
At the age of 17, Bernes moved to the capital of the USSR. Here he collaborates with several theaters at once, but plays mostly minor roles. In 1935, viewers first saw him on the silver screen. A few years later, the actor managed to advance to the first positions in motion pictures. Bernes gained fame with the tapes "Man with a Gun", "Fighters", "Big Life".
The actor's manner of acting was distinguished by subtle charm and soft inner mood. It was these qualities of Bernes that the Soviet audience fell in love with. The fame of a great actor came to Mark Naumovich after films about the Great Patriotic War. The film "Two Soldiers" became a key moment in the actor's career. In this picture, Bernes played a central role and performed the later famous song "Dark Night".
Bernes' manner of performance fascinated the audience. Subsequently, he performed his signature song many times at concerts and creative evenings. The actor's fame is firmly entrenched as a songwriter. Some compositions performed by Bernes came out in separate editions, became hits and were performed more than once on Soviet television.

Bernes is the owner of many high awards, among them: the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of the Red Star, the Stalin Prize, the title of People's Artist of the USSR.
Mark Bernes passed away on August 16, 1969. The cause of death of the talented actor and performer was lung cancer.
Bernes has been married twice. From his first marriage, he has a daughter, Natalya. In the second marriage, Mark Naumovich did not have children.
