Biography

Diego Luna was born in Mexico City in 1979. His whole family was committed to the world of theater and cinema: his mother was a costume designer and designer, and his father still works in theater and cinema as a production designer, he is known throughout Mexico. Fiona Alexander, Diego's mom, died in a car accident when he was just a toddler, so he hardly remembers her.

When Diego turned three, he had a forced film debut: his father took him to the shooting, and the director needed a boy for the episode - so the baby got into the frame. He also often visited the theater with his father, so that Diego very early got acquainted with all theatrical and cinematic cuisine.

Moreover, the father in every possible way encouraged his son's interest in the filming process, in rehearsals and, on occasion, shared the intricacies of his profession with him. He dreamed that his son would continue the family tradition. Thanks to this support, at the age of seven, Diego played a small role on the stage of the theater. And in 1989, when the boy was ten years old, he was assigned an important role in the TV series "Carousel", which was popular in Mexico.

Film career

Diego Luna began to appear more and more on the TV screen in small roles, and in 1992 he got a role in the short story "My Grandfather and Me", where he played with his friend Gael Bernal. Diego was still a teenager, and his acting career was already developing rapidly. And the older he got, the more roles he was offered in rating projects. Then offers began to come in for filming in melodramas and sitcoms. Of the most significant projects of those years, the series "The Biggest Prize" can be called - it brought the actor wide fame in his homeland.

Foreign viewers learned about the young actor after the release of the film "And your mother too", which was shot by the famous Alfonso Cuarona. Here Diego again played with his friend Gael, both had the main roles. Actually, there were three main roles - two guys and their companion, an older woman. The picture turned out to be successful in many respects thanks to the actors, although she received an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay. For Diego, this film also became a landmark: in Venice for his role in this film, he received the prize of Marcello Mastroiani himself.

Of course, Mexico could not pass by such an event, and Luna won the MTV Latin American Award for Best Kiss for her role in the film "And Your Mom, too."

Luna himself considers this role especially successful, because she gave him a pass to Spanish cinema, and then to Hollywood. And they learned about him in other countries too.

Hollywood directors did not fail to invite the young attractive actor to their projects: in 2002 he began acting in the film "Frida". The film received six Oscar nominations, two of which won.

The films "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights", the drama "Terminal" and the tragicomedy "Swindlers" did not receive such high awards, but they collected huge box office and were highly appreciated by film critics. And for Luna, it was a time of gaining experience on the set of films of such different genres.

The next work brought Diego a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild of the United States - this was the main role in the film "Harvey Milk". He played the main character's lover, played by Sean Penn. The set also featured famous actors Josh Brolin, James Franco and Victor Garber. The film received eight Oscar nominations and won two.
