Biography

Oleg Ivanovich Romantsev was born in the village of Gavrilovskoye, Ryazan Region, back in 1954, on January 4th. The guy began to play sports from the sixth grade. The place of study was not chosen by chance. The Avtomobilist football school in Krasnoyarsk has trained many outstanding Siberian athletes. Physical data of Oleg Romantsev fit perfectly into the requirements for a football team defender. At the age of 17 he started playing football for the Avtomobilist team, was noticed by coaches and became one of the leaders of the club. Moscow club "Spartak" twice tried to invite a young promising athlete, but Oleg this team did not seem well-coordinated. When the famous Konstantin Beskov took over the leadership of the “red-whites”, he managed to convince Romantsev of the need to change the club. Oleg came to Spartak as a defender, and became a formidable captain of the Moscow football squad. Becoming the leader of the Spartak team in 1978, Oleg Romantsev repeatedly sought a prize game from his teammates. In 1979 "Spartak" won the championship of the Soviet Union.

The career of the leading player was interrupted for Oleg suddenly. At the age of 29, in the prime of his physical fitness, the athlete was overtaken by a severe injury to the ankle joint, after which it became impossible to cope with the colossal load. These were the years of the best performances in the football arena. 1980-1983 the team, led by its captain, won several brilliant victories. And in 1980, Oleg Romantsev, as part of the Olympic team, led Soviet footballers to the bronze medal of the 1980 Olympics.

Coaching work

Romantsev decided to work as a football coach in 1984. He got the Moscow team Krasnaya Presnya, which played in the second league. At 35, Oleg Romantsev got the post of Konstantin Beskov, who retired, and the former Spartak captain becomes the head coach of his own team. Although Oleg Ivanovich also worked with the USSR national team, his favorite club was in his favor and in the 90s showed an excellent game in several European championships.

In 2002, Andrei Chervichenko took the place of the president of the victorious club. Romantsev's influence weakened, the club began to play worse and worse.
