Sam Esmail is a renowned American screenwriter, director and producer. He works in film and television. Sam is best known for writing and directing the television series Mr. Robot. He also directed the psychological thriller Homecoming starring Julia Roberts.
Biography and personal life
Esmail was born on September 17, 1977 to an Egyptian family in Hoboken, New Jersey. He grew up in a Muslim family. Later, Sam and his parents moved to South Carolina. During his school years, he hosted the Stanley Kubrick Film Festivals. Sembia then moved back to Sewell in Gloucester County. Esmail received his first computer at the age of 9. In his youth, he started writing his own code. He was educated at New York University, where he worked in a computer lab. Sam then received academic probation for an unpleasant incident. After graduating from the Tisch School of the Arts of this college, Esmail received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the AFI Conservatory.
In August 2015, Esmail became engaged to actress Emmy Rossum. The couple met for 2 years before legalizing their relationship. Sam made an Emmy in his directorial debut, Comet. Rossum is Jewish. The couple were married at the Reform Synagogue in New York City.
Career
In 2008, he wrote the script for the feature film "Sequels, Remixes and Adaptations" and immediately got into the "black list" of the rating of producers and directors of film companies. In 2014, he made his feature-length directorial debut. The Comet was released by IFC Films. Sam created the technology thriller Mr. Robot. The series premiered in the US in the summer of 2015. Esmail originally envisioned the project as a feature film. The main character was played by Rami Malek, who was also born in the United States to Egyptian immigrants. Rami received an Emmy for Best Actor in 2015.

In 2014, Sam worked with director Brian Bertino on the screenplay for the horror film Mockingbird. The plot tells about random people who found installed video cameras at their doors.
