Today it is not difficult to find out the exact time. If you do not have a regular watch with you, you can use the radio, the built-in clock of your mobile phone or personal computer. But what if, for example, you need to find out the time on a camping trip, far from the city?

Step 1
If you find yourself far from civilization with its convenient devices for determining the time, and you have lost or failed a regular watch, then you can use an ordinary compass and the sun.
Step 2
First you need to determine the azimuth in the direction of the sun. To do this, set the compass horizontally, orient it to the sides of the horizon. Then point the compass sighting device towards the sun and determine the angle between north and our daylight by following the clockwise direction. The magnitude of such an angle will be the azimuth we need.
Step 3
The azimuth value in degrees must now be divided by 15. This is the amount by which the sun turns in the sky in one hour. The number obtained by division will become an indicator of the local time at the moment. For example, the compass bearing was 90 degrees. Consequently, the local time is equal to six hours.
Step 4
In the forest or in nature, the time can also be determined by the voices of birds. At about two o'clock in the morning the nightingale begins its trills. Quail, cuckoo and lark sing songs at three in the morning. The chaffinch is accepted to sing at four o'clock in the morning. A sparrow chirped - about six o'clock in the morning.
Step 5
There is also a fun statistical method of timing based on expert judgment. If you find yourself in nature without a watch with a company of a dozen people, you can experiment and use this method.
Step 6
Take a piece of paper, tear it into pieces according to the number of participants in the experiment, and then, by consecutive written questioning of all those present, establish their estimate of the time at the moment. You should not indulge in the discussion out loud, otherwise the opinions of some may affect others, the purity of the experiment will be violated.
Step 7
Everyone will try to set the time intuitively, based on experience, by natural objects, and so on. The resulting time values must be added and divided by the total number of survey participants. When counting, the extreme values will cancel out, so you get an average result that very closely matches the local time.
Step 8
By the way, you can make such an expert assessment in a different form in any team. Show your colleagues an ordinary fountain pen and ask colleagues to estimate "by eye" its length in millimeters on pieces of paper. Collect pieces of paper with numbers, calculate the average value. Both you and your colleagues will be very surprised, because the answer found by expert assessment will very closely match the real one.
