In traditional Islam, there are several trends that differ from each other in the strict adherence to the principles of this doctrine. One of these areas is called Islamic fundamentalism. Its supporters demand a return to those provisions of the Muslim religion, which were laid down by the prophet Muhammad.

Step 1

The very term "Islamic fundamentalism" is quite controversial. In European culture and the United States, it is sometimes interpreted in different ways. But researchers of religion agree that this movement is aimed at exact and strict observance of the foundations of the Muslim religion, laid down in the Koran and Islamic law. Islamic fundamentalism is not a homogeneous trend; both moderate and extremist trends are present in it.

Step 2

Islamic fundamentalism has a long history. A few centuries ago, the adherents of this movement were called Salafis (from the Arabic "Salaf", which literally means "predecessors"). The first three generations of Muslims were considered the forerunners of true Islam: direct companions of the prophet, his followers and their disciples. Salafis were those who called to live according to the principles of "pious ancestors" and rejected later innovations in Islam.

Step 3

The ideologists of Islamic fundamentalism believe that this religion should be based only on the provisions of the Koran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. All other controversial views, which at a later time began to spread by Muslim religious leaders, should be excluded from the life of the community. What is not in the holy book of Muslims are unlawful innovations that should be banished from religion, according to fundamentalists.

Step 4

In their ideology, adherents of fundamentalism rely directly on the statements of the prophet. He said that the best words belong to Allah, and all that is newly acquired is just a harmful delusion. At the same time, classical fundamentalism does not take into account the provisions of the theory of Islam, according to which even innovations are not homogeneous, but are divided into sinful and approved ones.

Step 5

The modern ideology of Islamic fundamentalism is not just a set of theoretical views, it also has a practical orientation. The appeal to the true primary source of faith is used to revive early religious traditions, social institutions and moral attitudes in Muslim society. Radical fundamentalists also pursue the goal of replacing the democratic legal norms that are gradually taking root in Islamic society with strict Sharia law.

Step 6

The followers of Islamic fundamentalism believe that the ultimate goal of their activities is the restoration of the originally existing "purity of faith." Many of the fundamentalists are bitter opponents of the reformist currents in Islam. Such ideological confrontation creates the basis for serious social and religious conflicts.
