Little Bentley is a contemporary American mystic and horror writer, writing under the pseudonym Philip Emmons. He is very popular in his homeland, readers put his works on a par with the books of Stephen King.
Biography
Little was born in Arizona in 1960, a month after his mother saw the famous horror film Psycho by Hitchcock. According to the writer himself, this is what determined his future. Larry, the father of the future master of horrors, worked as a teacher, and Roseanne's mother is an artist.
The family was poor, working. His son was drawn to reading and tried to write himself from early childhood, but first he received a school education, then managed to work as a window washer, typesetter, furniture maker, librarian, traveling salesman, photographer, and then got a job as a journalist and applied to Fullerton University of California.
Little studied diligently, earning a BA in Communications and an MA in Literature, the latter being awarded for his debut novel Revelation. The same book was the beginning of his high-profile career.
Creation
"Revelation" - a novel about resurrected children and a terrible evil that has taken over a small American town, was highly appreciated by Stephen King himself. The book was published in 1991 and won the prestigious Bram Stoker Prize.
The next year, The Postman was released, another controversial horror story set in a small town where a demonic postman lives. And although he himself does nothing wrong, except for sending letters that drive people crazy, outbreaks of monstrous violence continue in the town: beatings, murders, sexual crimes.
Little Bentley's books are written in extremely simple language, and they harmoniously combine inexplicable events and the psychology of interesting characters, and a brave hero always comes out the winner. In addition to novels, Bentley writes short stories published in separate collections.
So, from the publication of his first book to this day, Bentley publishes one novel annually. "Home", "Vault", "Call" - every horror lover knows these simple names, behind which are chilling stories. The 2010 thriller The Disappearance was the last to be translated into Russian.
It is curious that in 34 states of the United States bookstores are prohibited from selling Little's books, nevertheless they are studied in many American literary colleges, and the name of the writer is known all over the world.
Personal life
Little Bentley is known for his eccentricities. He is a real recluse, who does not want advertising for his works, does not give interviews and categorically refuses any public events. However, he has many fans all over the world, including Russia. In 1995, he married a Chinese woman Wai Sau Li, his faithful assistant, to whom he repeatedly wrote thanks in his books. His wife bore him one son.
